In cleaning out the remnants of a deceased friend's garage, I came across a pair of axles that I can't ID. I don't want to scrap them, but can't figure out what they go to. They are clearly for an 8 3/4 rear and still have bearings with one side adjuster in place, BUT THEY ARE 5 1/2 INCH BOLT PATTERN. From the outside face of the stud flange to the end of the axle is 31 1/2 inches. If the Chrysler cars are any indication, it would be from 1965? (they are not spindle nut axles) to 1972 (end of 8 3/4). Anybody have any idea???

1972-73 Imperial, all the other year Imperials have shorter axles.

Interesting, so Imperials had their own wheel bolt pattern? Also wasn't the 8 3/4" produced through 1974?

Don't know about other cars and trucks, last A-body 8 3/4 was in 1972 - 8 1/4 Spicer after that. You can find 8 3/4 rears under all sorts of 1972 A- bodies because they were just using up all the complete assemblies they had left. I've bought whole 1972 slant 6 Dart 4 doors, just to get the 8 3/4...

72-74 W100 also used an 8.75 and had 5 on 5.5 BC
Also 74 was the last year for the 8.75 in E bodies and trucks with some leftovers used in 74 B bodies..
Here is some axle info.

8 3/4" axle shaft lengths measured from the tip of the splined end
to the outside of the flange:

A BODY
'66-'72= 27 11/16"

B BODY
'65-'67= 28 7/8"
'68-'70= 29 3/16"
'71-'74= 30 5/8"
'71-'73 wagon= 31 21/64"

C BODY
'65-'69= 30"
'70-'71= 30 5/8" (Chrysler & Fury)
'70-'73= 31 21/64" (and '69 wagon)

IMPERIAL (Large Bolt Pattern)
'65-'66= 30 1/8"
'67-'69= 30 5/16"
'70-'71= 29"
'72-'73= 31 7/16"

E BODY
'70-'74= 29 31/32"

A100
'65-'70= 30"

D100
'65-'71= 31 1/8"
'72-'74= 31 21/64

The spring perch would be mounted to top of the axle if it came out of a pickup. I don't know what year Dodge went to full time 4WD, which would have had the 5 x 4 1/2 '' bolt pattern.

My 73 crew cab Power Wagon had a 8 3/4 with 391s...beast. ..my 68 d100 custom has 391's also but only pegleg
