Had a Gentleman that knows more than I do ( Thats what he let me know ) that claims Chrysler made an A body 8 3/4 rear end with large bolt pattern.

5 on 4.5???? Keep in mind we are talking A body.

I have never heard of this, Am I wrong?

I don't think you are wrong.

B,C,E, truck, yes

A no.

By the time BBP came so did 8 1/4

Now there were some 7 1/4 BBP in A bodies (76 IIRC)

The 7 1/4" BBP A-Body rear ends were available in '73 to '76 cars that were either slant 6 with power brakes and had BBP disc brakes on the front or some standard 318 cars that by default had BBP front discs.
All V8 cars had BBP front discs from '73 to '76.
The 8 1/4" BBP rear end was in all A-Body 340 ('73 only) and 360 cars from '74 to '76.
And to add to the mix, all A-Bodies made after January 1st 1976 had BBP front disc brakes on them regardless of engine, and that means a BBP rear end was included... be it a 7 1/4" or an 8 1/4".

There were no A-Body BBP 8 3/4" rear ends from the factory ever made.
The O.P.'s friend is wrong about this, it's been an urban myth for decades...

I will be meeting this guy later today and maybe he can school me some more.

Funny thing is that he just wants to buy the mystical large bolt pattern axles for his A 8 3/4 and not a complete rearend.

Probably basing it off of his immense knowledge of the '68 Hemi cuda's and Darts.

I have two sets of A-body BBP axles. One is from Dr Diff and the other is cut down from another body style.

If the axles are 28” long and not redrilled small bolt pattern axles and you need some and if they are a good deal buy them. Otherwise factor diff sells those axles new for 300 bucks with new green bearings installed

I got my BBP factory A body length axles from Dutchman. They are H-1541 material made in the USA very nice stuff. About a 2-week turnaround from order to my door. Yes, I know I need to use the larger car rear brakes or the 73 and later BBP a Body rear brakes there is quite a bit more variety and availability vs the A Body only SBP brakes.

So much for his “expert” opinion. I’ve argued with a few people who swear that they had large bolt on their 72 Dusters that they bought brand new. 50 years ago, the car is long gone, but they’re sure they remember that specifically. Oy!
and they all had 4.11 "posi" rears and came from the factory with a double pumper holley

Id like to find a true BIG bolt pattern 8-3/4 (5 on 5-1/2) for my truck... Should be small mid and big bolt pattern...... Next someone will be saying that they have a factory 6 lug (Dakota, viper) 8-3/4.....

I think all SS cars became Dana equipped by default in 1966, although it wouldn't surprise me to see an 8-3/4 in one somewhere along the way... I've got the book on the Super Stock history, I'll have to dig it out and see what it says.

What was the price VS Dr. Diff? More or less than $300?
