I am switching from a 7 1/4 rear to an 8 3/4 in my 67 Barracuda. I already have the shock mounts needed for this conversion and was wondering what the size was on the u-bolts to get this project going? Do I use 1/2 diameter with a 3 1/8 ID and what length do I look for, 8" ??? Anyone have any experience with this? I want to go to an auto parts store to get these as MOPAR seems to want about $50 to $60 dollars foir these items. Seems like alot of $$$$ when they can be had for about $5 to $7 from a Napa or Carquest. What is the correct sizing? Thanks! :thumblef:

Just go to your local parts store. Tell then you need 3 in. u-bolts, about
7 to 8 in. long. As long as you have the lower shock mount for the 8 3/4 rear.
All 8 3/4 axles use 3 in. U bolts.
Good luck. Green Duster

Thanks Green Duster for the reply here. I knew that the 8 3/4 uses a 3" axle tube. That i was not real concerned about. When I went to my parts store they wanted to know if the bolt needed to be 1/2", 5/8" dia and so forth. They listed a few diameters (shank size). Nothing was application specific. All generic and I had to provide specs. Does anyone know what diameter and length I would need? Thanks. :thumblef:
