8.75 or Dana 60?

I'm building a drag car, already have a good 8.75, anyone know how much HP/abuse it can take? I will get a spool and moser axles, or should I buy a dana 60 housing? Thanks

Depends on how hard you are going to hit it.

Big tire, heavy car, trans brake/4 speed = Dana

8.75's can take some hardcore street action.

If you are frugal, you can build a spooled Dana for under $1000. I just bought a strange spooled/axled 4.88 Dana shortened to 50.5" for $850. You can find decent deals.

If you are starting from scratch, I wouldn't waste my time on a 8.75. It will cost the same to outfit as a Dana once you get done.

500 cid , transbrake. Are slicks inaddition to the light weight ride?
I'd go DANA and be very happy with it since your more so likely NOT to break it.

Don't know where you live, but there's a Dana 60 available with spool/axles, 4.56's and about 51" wide total for around $750-800.

All great info. My dart has the 8 3/4,but Im thinkin I might upgrade to the Dana.

Did C bodies come with Dana's? What years? How can I I.D one?

I've got a buddy with a field covered in those big tanks. Big blocks every one too!

Yes. Greg got the housing from Timken, who used it to test bearings. He cut is down to 52.4", with 43" perch width. Fit perfectly on the Super Stock springs I had previously installed..

i also have a warm 500 and im hoping my 8.75 lives. 9 in. slick x 29 is about all i,ll be able to fit in the wheelwell so i think it may survive
