Can anybody tell me the measurement ( distance ) from the outside of the housing flange to the outside of the axel flange. Getting ready to have housing shortened. Thanks, Al

It depends on what bolt pattern you are going to use. To keep the same track width, with big bolt pattern backing plates, the axle housing gets shorter. Moser did mine, and that is what I did. I've put custom big bolt pattern axles in original "A" body 8 3/4 then swaped big bolt pattern backing plates and that works too.

If you are not looking for an exact measurement, but more of an approximate, it is 2.5"

This all depends on which brakes your using..10x1 3/4 or 10x2 1/2.I had a C-body housing narrowed to 46 5/8 inches.Stock A-body rear flange to flange is 52 5/8,so mine is 3 inches off each side of A-body length.Add 10x2 1/2 inch brakes and I have a rear that is 51 5/8 complete width,room for meats.Good luck.
