73 Slant 6 duster all stock. 93K miles.
Long hot drive home from Rockingham Drags and halfway (2 hours in) the car started dying at stoplights. Shift to neutral and starts and idles perfect. Tried shifting to neutral as I coasted and it could hang on if I timed it right. After a few stop lights, I tried downshifting manually (D to 2 to 1), it did it (not smoothly) and then after one cycle of manual downshift it would not die at stoplights anymore and seemed to be downshifting normal as you slow to stops. This is a weird one for me, so not sure if it was something just sticking or something else. What can I check?
Fluid and filter changed 1000 miles ago, level good, almost no wear in pan. Drives and shifts normal but has the classic drain-back after sitting problem.
