How do you like that 1.03 torsion bar? I'm about to pull the trigger, but some hesitation about too stiff of a ride for a regular driver.
I did a bunch of research before buying a set of 1.03" torsion bars from PST on a stock suspension '69 Dart with a 340 and A/C. What I found is that mostly everybody from what I could tell, was happy with them. They did provide a firmer ride but not too harsh. The price alone makes them worth a try $215 with the FABO discount vs. around $400 for a Mopar Performance set. I went with them because I have my ride height set pretty low and the frame constantly hits the lower control bump stops. I haven't installed them yet though.
I actually emailed James at PST about the ride quality on the 1.03" bars and this is how he replied: I have had numerous inquiries very similar to your application and engine specs, each of them have had the same concerns as you. All of them ended up buying our 1.03 torsion bars and have never been happier with the decision. With the clocking that has been designed into our bars you will still have a quality ride with a modern feel even at a lowered ride height. Please let know if your have any other questions.
I have the 1.03 and think they’re worth it on my 67 barracuda 360. I also have the epso HD 6 leaf and they complement each other nicely. Ride quality is good and the car is on rails. Stiffened it up enough to reduce the sloppy body roll but not harsh either on the bumps.
I installed ESPO HD leaf springs a couple of weeks ago. Now I'm working on my front suspension with PST 1.03 torsion bars and new bushings all the way around. Can't wait to finish and see how the ride changes!!
I used the 1.03 bars on my 67 340 Barracuda. rears original HD with an extra full length spring (7 leafs) and a 3/4" rear sway bar. Ride isn't harsh just stiffer like modern. The part I like the best was when I went Bilstiens all round. They made it handle.
Thanks! I almost forgot about shocks. I still have old Monroe shocks. I can see how they would round out the suspension after all other upgrades.
How'dee all... I've been in the process of getting ready to upgrade my Torsion's on my '68 Formula-S 340 'Cuda and was planning on going with the PST-1.03's... I honestly hadn't given any thought to the shocks being a factor in the equation anymore than just requiring shocks in general. After reading a few different posting on the PST-1.03's I've realized that its a necessity... I've heard many of you mentioning the "Bilstiens", however nobody has mentioned "which" style of Bilstiens should be considered. Can I get some suggestions..? Also, while I'm at it, my rear springs are stock, all be it new'ish, their stock performance springs... I'f I'm putting in the PST-1.03's, coupled with 'which-ever Bilstiens are suggested, front & rear, are there any suggestions that I should consider for new rear springs to accentuate the all-around ride performance..? As I said, I have a '68 Formula-S 340 4-speed Notchback Barracuda... Any & All suggestions would & will be greatly appreciated..! Thanks in advance...!
#BIL7056063 from PST,,,,put your new bars in and drive it and then put the Bilstiens on and let us know. I don't regret getting them at all.
First I’d like to say thanks for your reply! Secondly I would like to verify if that SKU number is correct? I went to PST site and found that SKU number with the shocks however it doesn’t list anything from the latter part of 60s for a bodies just 70 Series A-bodies within the product details section... Thanks Again!
...all set... I contact PST and they looked into them and called me back with the good news... so I ordered their Deluxe 1.03’s & a full set of the Bilstiens... although the 1.03 adjusters won’t be available until sometime in April, at least the balls rolling..! Thanks Again...!
I like to change one thing at a time to feel what made what difference, I'd like to hear what you think. cheers Larry
A previous owner installed 0.92 bars - but on close inspection they are both Left bars! No wonder it was hard to remove one... Also need to change the steering box and it'll be a lot easier with the K-frame dropped (451 & B-body headers). So I just ordered mine online
///////////////////////////// Good job James. I will definitely stick with PST for parts on my other car.
