I am working on a budget and I'm trying to keep the car as cheap as possible and so I am not looking to order new Springs at this time. I am looking for a good set of leaf springs for my 66 DART station wagon project. If somebody has a new or used set of 1 inch over Springs somewhere in Central Florida that would be great. I would like to get ESPN Springs as I have had good luck with them before; but for $265 plus $85 shipping and that's not including extra bolts, shackles, and bushings, which takes the price over $400, I can't see doing it.

I have a fairly new set (maybe 300 miles) of 3 inch lift '69 Barracuda leaf springs and a set of used late 60s A body leaf springs. I can post pics and ship by Greyhound. Greyhound has been the least expensive way to ship heavy stuff. I'm in S. Texas.

Thanks for the reply. Gosh the three inch lift springs might be too high and the other ones are stock and probably aren't going to be high enough. Well let me ask this. What did you want for them and you have an idea what the shipping might be off the top of your head?

A friend of mine has a new set of aftermarket HD that were installed on his 67 Valiant that were just used to roll the car around. They are from ESPO in PA. He has since put a 4 link system in and the springs are for sale. I can get more details if you still need them.

Well I need to get 120 plus shipping for the almost new ones (3 inch lift), I paid way more than that for them as you probably know. I'm only asking $80 for the stock pair (plus shipping). The 3" lift ones would be perfect because of the way the springs mount on the axle, so all you need is some lowering block and longer u bolts to get the exact height you want. On the stock ones I had used lift shackles, they don't cost much either. I can get a shipping quote online, all you need is the length and the weight to get a quote.....if you're interested. I understand if you want to keep looking.

If you have a spring shop any where around they can re arch and add a leaf to your old set. I've done this before with good results and saved a lot of cash.

If the spring shop doesn't have a furnace I'd look for another shop. If you re-arch by just using a big press the arch won't hold for long. If they stick the leaves in a furnace and re-arch then they'll be like new and last forever.

The only info that my friend has is that they are listed as Heavy Duty but stock ride height and no part numbers.

Shipping is probably going to be a killer and a deal-breaker on any leaf spring that isn't local. I'm imagining $72 to $90 for shipping a pair of leaf springs to me. I could use more than one set as I have more than one car that needs leaf springs. Do either of you know anyone that might be coming to Florida?
Ken how much does your friend want for those?

I don't understand the interest, famous Bob. I wanted to buy your leaf springs but could never get a quote on shipping because you didn't want to take them anywhere. Sell them local, then.
Ken and Treblin, pm me quotes.

Some people don't have easy access to a shipper like Greyhound or YRC or they can't carry the heavy springs a long distance. Then some folks don't even want the hassle of wrapping and handling the long heavy suckers. I don't either but I don't need these springs so I'm willing to go through all the hassle. The Greyhound station in my town used to have easy access for large heavy items. You could literally drive your truck right up to the scale. The Greyhound in my town just relocated, they now require that you carry any item about 100 yards to get anything from the parking lot to the scales, yes it's stupid but I can't do anything about it.
So it's either go through the hassle of hauling the heavy springs over that distance or let them sit in my garage and gather dust???

I weighed the springs and went online to the Greyhound and YRC web sites. Before I list the shipping quotes let me tell you that the "3 inch lift springs" have 6 leafs each while the stockers only have 5 leafs. So there's a big difference in weight. The 6 leaf springs weigh 43 lbs each while the 5 leaf weigh 32 lbs each. To ship to central Florida (Orlando for instance) it costs $130 for both of the heavy (6 leaf) springs. To ship the lighter (32 lb) springs to Orlando it costs $105. This would be with $100 insurance and the springs wrapped in cardboard/tape.
YRC wanted $130 for the heavy springs. These are just estimates but should be very close to the actual shipping costs.

To understand famous bob's position....Has anyone out there ever carried "two" 43 lb leaf springs 100 yards, they don't exactly have handles built on them????

PS - If I was putting leaf springs on a wagon I'd go with the 6 leaf...but that's just me???

Thanks Treblig
I really appreciate the time that you put into it, but for Less then $250 I can get brand new Springs from Summit that come with a warranty. I thought you were going to tell me that shipping was going to be around thirty bucks or 40 bucks tops. Sorry, but that is why I stated in the original post here that I'm looking for somebody in Central Florida that may have Springs.. However, as I have told others, if you know someone that's coming to Florida that can transport them from Texas, let me know.

No problem, lucky for me that springs don't really go bad just sitting around. And even better, I don't pack and haul them to the bus terminal...I'm still pissed off at Greyhound for making everyone park so far away!!:BangHead:

thanks for the quotes, I knew they would be that high. I`ve shipped quite a few items in the last 7 yrs. and have seen the shipping prices go stupid high. also the greyhound station in Tulsa, (the last time I was there) would be a total pain in the swazoo to try to get the springs into !

Check my source out. Ask for Laura to give you a quote. Love my new leaf springs.

I know Laura and we have already talked. I love their springs and if I was doing up a restored car so would get them in a heartbeat. $265 plus $40 shackles and $85 shipping is just too much for my old car. I am looking for used and in Florida. Thanks.

Still, if someone is going through OK or Texas on the way to Florida, I would be interested.

I live in deep South Texas (it's about 900 miles to Oklahoma), it's like living in South Florida, no one wants to drive to the end of the earth to pick up a load, especially a small load!! But then again....you never know.
Good luck with your search.....

Val, maybe you should start a new thread requesting (as you've stated above) "used springs and only in Florida" (and possibly add in a max $ amount you are willing to spend). It's apparent you want springs on the cheap (we've all been there) but you have a lot of people jumping through hoops for you here and are being met with no's. If you really can't afford new springs or to have good used springs shipped to you, maybe you should consider some of the suggestions ranging from temporarily using shackles or reaching/adding a leaf. In this hobby ... you can't always have champagne tastes on a beer budget. I see Locomotion (in FL) contacted you. Perhaps he has something close/cheap enough to be considered. GL.

That's a good idea!! Or the OP could do what I've done before. Get the top leaf off any other vehicle with the same spring width then cut off the eye ends and install just below the top spring on this car. Just be sure and get a top leaf that is long enough to just go beyond the lower edge of the top leaf of your springs. There are tons of cars out there with springs that are the same width. Drill a hole in the correct place in the center (off center) and your problem will be solved. I'm assuming that the OP has a set of used springs already??
