Gotta love the first car. I remember mine ... a 1974 Chevy Nova. It's an exciting time. My nephew just got his permit and turns 16 in October. My brother found this very clean and very nice 1975 Ford Elite on craigslist. He got it for $1800. A few bubble of surface rust in a couple of spots is all. Straight lines and clean. An old man had it, and he bought it from the original old lady owner. 400 with A/T, air, power seats, and get this .... intermittent wipers. I always liked this body style, and Alex looks happy in his new ride!

My first didn't look that good

my first was a 94 ford escort wagon... a lot has changed. haha

That is clean!!!!!!!!!!
Go thru the entire brake and steering system and make sure everything is up to par.
Throw on fresh tires.
The good thing is with a 400 it sucks gas faster than the boy will be able to fill the tank so he will appreciate a dollar.
Lots of crash protection there. A young kid is going to hit a few things.

Dont ask me how I know.

This brought a smile to my face
He will never ever forget that cool ride, and a safe stong one at that. Congratulations to your nephew :glasses7:
and thank you for sharing Mopar to ya :D

My first car was a 4 door 1970 cutlass, we got it brand new and 9 years later-and rusty it was getting to be my car but others were still using it rarely.

Well my brother was just learning how to drive and him and my mom ran off to the store and car comes back with the front bumper smashed up high--still legal and safe to drive but looks like heck and costly to repair.

Tick me off--of course nobody was hurt and since my brother was young the guy he rear ended just let it go with no police--money.

Then my real first car that I brought--a 2 door 70 cutlass, well I destroyed that thing the 3 year I had it.

Looking back kind of glad in a way, I learn not to get hung up on any certain thing, certainly not a car. Both those cars I wanted to keep "forever", lol

X2

Make sure the exhaust system has no leaks. Do teens still neck or whatever while the engine-heater is going while parked for a longtime ?

The old man drove it once in a while. The brakes are good, exhaust is good, the tires are like new, the low gear rear end and 2 bbl carb will get 18-20 mpg. We were leaving to go back and get my car and Alex was sitting in the car learning all the knobs and buttons and reading the owners manual. It put a smile on my face. I told my brother I'd be happy to buy Alex an intake for his birthday and that I have an Eddy 600 cfm that would go well on the car.

Very first was a Lincoln MK V Cartier, similiar body style as that one. Thing had a 460, and power everything.Felt like a wheeled tank and went thru gas like no other.

My high school buddy had a 1970 Ford LTD with the 428--429 engine, not sure which. That thing flew, maybe not pin you to the back of the seat but had loads of top end, 130 I seen the speedo at too many times, lol

He beat the heck out of that thing, finally broke the frame--I wasn't in the car at the time. Idiot was doing lawn jobs and broke the frame jumping curbs.

I was in it when he first had it and once the headliner came sucking down at high speeds, we all pushed it back up and rolled the windows up--no power windows.

He paid $400 for it, around 1980

My first car was a FWD Turbo Eclipse that was wrecked on both sides, ac didn't, work, and always broke down......But man did I love that car didn't get rid of it til I blew the engine and stripped it for another eclipse man I miss that thing lol. That ford looks pretty amazing alot of metal around him for protection to like a dang tank.

Nothin wrong with an old Ford. I always wanted a 64 Galaxy 500XL.

It's funny how that Elite made it this many years without rusting, or damage.. Give it a year and that thing will have lots of small dents and bruises.

My friend bought a mint 74 Dart 4 door, unrestored granny car years ago, and smashed it all to hell, drove it through the forest and into ditches and off jumps.. And never once changed the oil or did any maintenance. And he wonders why it veers off the road now and sputters and tries to stall.

He's a lucky young man. 2 door, V-8. He's gotta feel like a million bucks. My first was a Green 66 Dart Gt. 318 & 727.

Nice car. With a 400... It will go pretty well, but suck down gas...

you never forget your first car.......i dont regret selling my first but the memories will be forever....my first car was a 70 cuda.... but it was a bit flashy for me anyway. but i still remember the excitment of it on the first day i drove somewhere on my own in it.

I had the "downgrade" of one of these for a commuter for awhile, a 78 Ferd LTDII, joking called the "SCUD missile" because we figured it was a "low flying, poorly guided" missile.

I notice you are in Minnesota. One thing I REALLY like about the Ferd transmissions, is that in slick conditions, you can put the trans in "2" and UNlike GM or Mopar, which shifts from 1 to 2, when placed in "2" the Ferds LOCK in 2nd gear. This is GREAT for slick spots to help prevent wheelspin, at intersections, etc.

I bought mine with a damaged oil pump and broke camshaft, from ingesting pieces of PLASTIC TIMING SPROCKET so if it's got "a few" on the clock, consider a new timing drive.

Only other real problem I had was an intermittent with the electronic ignition --it would just randomly quit. This was towards "the end of it's days" so I just dropped a points distributor in it.

My first car was my grandma's 63 Chevy station wagon, beautiful condition when I got it, One week later I painted it primer grey ,blacked out all the rear windows with spray paint, no window tint back then, I put chrome wheels on it and surf board racks. My mom and dad were pissed and Im sure grandma turned over in her grave. Oh yes the good ole first car memories !!!

Bob

..... first car was......... 63 Chevy............. no window tint back then

OF COURSE there was window tint back then. I remember a couple of guys in our small town had their windows tinted. I'm SURE J.C. Whitney/ Warshosky sold it

One of the "Wells" brothers had a NICE dark dark green 55 Chev with "chromeees" and tinted windows that just looked boss as hell. It would have been a proud addition to "American Graffiti" 264 4bbl, 4 speed.

Good for him, and + for appreciating a classic at his age.

One of my buds had one of those about 1986.
Sherwood type green with white leather int, T tops and wide *** Cragars.
Nice car.
