I came across this on Craigslist here in the SF Bay Area and thought to myself how insane this sounded. At first, I figured it was a full blown scam and then started to think about it and realized that maybe there is a little craziness mixed in as well.

First of all, if I was going to croak in 5 years and was worried about my child's welfare, I would not be sinking any money in to this car (and any other non-necessity). I would probably sell it and put every penny into some sort of interest bearing CD for the child. I wonder if she really thinks that an amateur SuperBee clone is going to bring $150K. I don't want to sound like an uncaring, callous *** but I would need some pretty hard proof of the situation before I donated parts or time.

What do you folks think?

Crazy story GTX...I'm not quite sure what to think of it. But the gal did leave a phone #. Unless the daughter is disabled in any capacity, 5 years is enough to get a college education to some degree. It's a sad story. I do think it would warrant meeting this person and getting to know them in some capacity before you can justify giving parts and $'s away.

It's a SCAM - Pure SCAM. The car is nowhere near worth that, ever. This is some guy trying to build his car with other people's money. I agree, there would have to be more than just a say so before I'd ever give a penny. Notice how the add calls us hard-assed just to make us feel guilty?

Mopars are a dieing breed? wtf??? I wouldn't talk to her just because she said that, honestly now you are asking for help yet saying what we do is dieing? Did I read that wrong?

I noticed the hard-assed comment as well. I may just call and mention a few parts that I actually do have available and ask to see the car and meet her. If she agrees and do see the car, I would ask to see the title with her name on it and some ID (to prove it's hers). Again, I don't want to be the "hard-***" and I don't mine helping if it were legit and she was just a little off her rocker.

hmmm sounds a bit fishy to me. If i was going to die in 5 years putting 440 in my car would be down on the list. Look at the gas prices now and 5 years from now? The girl wont be able to drive the thing!

I would choose to spend as much time as i could with her, not build her a car.

but then again thats just me.

i dont know maybe im just to hard assed for my own good what the lady doesnt seem to understand is even a REAL super bee with a 440 isnt worth 150 grand and she doesnt have a super bee she has a base coronet if it was originally a 318 car no way it will ever bee worth anywhere near 150 k in the next few years if its ever worth that much. I mean if its not a scam then it seems like a somewhat nice story for the woman to leave her daughter a nice car but what she needs to realize is while the car may be very sentimental to the daughter and may bring her what 20 k if done very well (maybe wrong here feel free to insert your own number but you have to admit im at least in the ballpark here maybe a little to much or to little but close none the less) it will never be worth the money she is thinking but you also have to admit to a person not exactly in the know it would be easy to think that after watching barret jackson or something similar everyone who doesnt deal with our beloved cars somewhat regularly thinks their /6 dart is now a 20k car so just imagine what they think a super bee would be worth just my .02 god bless them both if its a true story and if not i give them an e for effort Justin

A brain tumor could cause a lot of that confused thinking. No one should depend on a car to guarentee a childs future. If she asked me... SELL THE CAR ! Put the money in a trust fund.

I think either the brain tumor is clouding her thinking or it's just a scam. More than likely it's a scam. Anybody would have to be nuts to believe that what she's doing is going to secure her daughters future with the way our economy looks. God forbid if something like the 1929 depression would hit again all our cars would be worth next to nothing. Much less $150,000. Only original Hemi or 440+6 cars bring that much usually.

I know if I had a brain tumor the last thing I'd worry about is building a hotrod for my wife to sell after I die. Unless you cobble stuff up (and are good at hiding it) you usually don't make much money on a project unless you can take it to Barrett-Jackson and then it's still a gamble. What she needs to do is sell what she has and invest it in something safe.

That must be one slow growing brain tumor too. Every time I've heard of someone having a brain tumor they die alot faster than in 5 yrs. My uncle had one and only lasted 6 months. The doctor he had said usually 6 months to a year is it for most.

same here 3 to 5 months for my uncle

I truly hope it is a scam and all is well.
