A factory Slant 6 with a 8 1/4 differential

Our 73 duster came with a /6 ,8 .25 rear end and the bigger torsion bars , so what I have read Ma Mopar basically used up what she had sitting on the assy line toward the end of the run on cars.

I don't think that happened very often. Unless it was a plant closing or a complete model change, like 76 A-bodies to 77 F-bodies. I'm real doubtfull of those "they threw on there whatever they had laying around" statements.

It's more likely certain option combinations triggered the bigger rears. Those combinations would be determined by engineering. Also HD towing and HD suspension would of course be a factor. But not always would you get a bigger rear end with the HD towing/susp. it would depend on other options, but it would be more likely.
