I am going to use a 1996 Dodge 46RE in a 1949 Plymouth behind a mildly modified LA360. My question is how to control the transmission in a standalone environment like this. Any help is appreciated.

the RE is computer controlled so I’m not sure if it con be controlled like the RH models. Someone who knows how and if it can be done is certain to chime in

All the research I did before I bought my 46rh was the 46re has to have a controller. You can buy one aftermarket by 2 different companies that are made for stand alone. Sorry I forget their names. I went and looked harder for a 46rh just to avoid all that trouble. Those kits are like $700-800 dollars.

I was told a controller from an 89-92 E4OD ford would work for a 46re- but I could not verify that. Pretty simple

cheaper and simpler to get a 46rh or 42rh unless you have already rebuilt the RE. Should be easy to find in 2wd trucks and vans from 1990-1994 if I recall . I have a spare 46rh in my shed.
Here is my 46rh getting ready to go into my 68 Barracuda.

Somewhere around half way through the thread below it was discussed the truck was using a test version of a new stand alone controller that will run a 46RE transmission.
@TT5.9mag is this controller readily available now?

My search for a shorty D100 is over

Yessir. It was readily available before I bought it. You can find it at etranscontrol.com
I have around 2000 miles on mine using that controller and it’s been great so far.

The Turbo440 looks like a GREAT option. I will call them tomorrow.
Careful the TCM440 is a fully manual controller and will not support automatic shifting. If you want to put the car in drive and let it shift on it’s own you need the TCM430 kit.

Looking at your progress is inspiring...... I have discovered (and learned a lot) from digging into this issue. I am now thinking of going back to my gasser roots and putting in a 5 speed manual.
