Hi, I'm a little depressed, so I got my driveshaft, it was made by a company on ebay, that's all they handle. However my driveshaft had to be made and they had to locate a slip yoke.
I went to install it about 30 minutes ago and it would only go in about 1/2” at best. Hard to tell with seal in place. Just something seems wrong with the inside of the yoke, like someone machined it poorly and the wide spline looks suspicious. Here it is Friday:( I'll wait to see what they say come Monday, but I'm thinking to locate a slip yoke.
Ideas?

for a new yoke that looks pretty shitty to me , the locator is messed up , if they won't replace it take a 3 corner file and clean it up and the same with the tranny spline . you can clearly see the burrs .

Wow George, what a difference!! Sigh, I’m thinking just to order a new one from brewers, however I’ll try what Jim said too;)

My yoke is original mopar from around 1970s.

Sorry to say you have a new Chineseium aftermarket yoke. Appears to be mostly internally cast, instead of machined like the real mopar ones.

If getting a used mopar one, check to see outside shaft is not badly rust pitted or grooved from the seal running on it.

Are you saying the yoke itself will only go in 1/2 way or that once bolted to the diff flange ? As in not long enough shaft ? There are 2 different length yokes with that spline and U-Joint size. I have run into this before .

Did you measure from the end of the boot or the end of the trany when you ordered ? Always measure from end of trany tail housing because not all seals have an extended boot .

Sorry for your troubles, that's why I always have them made locally. If there is a problem and there always seems to be with driveshafts, it's a quicker turnaround getting it right.

Hi mbaird;) Yes, it will only go in about 1/2" then starts to bind and have to tug to get it out. I'm unable to bolt to the the diff yoke/flange as the shaft won't go in all the way. When I measured for them to make the driveshaft, I measured from the tip of the output shaft. I believe the shaft length should be ok, however I won't know until I can slide the yoke all the way in. I'm thinking it's just a cheapy slip yoke like George said. I measured the way they told me to.

Kind of sad, but a local company I had used to make the shaft for my '67 Mustang, they kept hemhawing around which led me to shop~ and well, there you have it! I chose poorly:(

Call the company that used that piece of **** and tell them to send you a new one.

Look at that piece of garbage. The teeth aren’t the same width. The lead of the teeth are different sizes and they aren’t even shaped the same.

You can’t fix that with a 3 cornered file. That is straight Chinese garbage.

Make them replace it. They should have caught that before they sent it out. Or, they did see it and didn’t give a ****.

I says it’s a 50/50 call on that.

Don't take this out on yourself, you'll get through this.

Right. That thing was most likely made in china as it looks just as shitting as one we got for a ZF trans we put into a Cosworth English Escort…

Most companies give you directions on where to measure. And most all that I have used say to measure from the metal part of the trany boot to the pinion yoke whithout the cap on it. I see tour picture measiuring from the end of the rubber boot.
Make sure the caps are not on the pinion yoke and measure from there to the metal part of the trany seal .

I just had a shaft built and it came out perfect.

In the meantime, I ordered the yoke from Brewers~, still haven't heard from the ebay company which made the shaft. Can't thank you guys enough the input and voicing the frustrations. Kind of funny, but I offered to buy the yoke and send it to them, but there was no remark.

This is the driveshaft order:

Contact seller through the purchase/orders page "more actions" tab. This starts the clock on a response. After so many days with or without a response, you can escalate to ebay and probably will get a full refund without returning it.

I would have picked up a used truck driveshaft then have a heavy truck shop shorten and balance, change the parts as needed (yokes, new tubing, etc), and let them source the parts. They can usually do the work while you wait.

While still waiting on the yoke from Brewers, the ebay seller wrote. Greg, which I've been communicating wrote below. Was nice to see, but if the yoke fixes the issue, how would I proceed with the seller? Do I ask to be reimbursed for what I spent on the Brewers yoke?

"Hello,We are sorry about the issue and let us know how it turns out.We will make sure to make it right.We are sorry about the issue and let us know how it turns out.We will make sure to make it right.Thank you Greg."

don't look at my workbench :lol:

I didn't see it mention here, so I'll just add;

I assume you know that the A833 short tails come in two output sizes;
the regular one that takes a 727 yoke and
the slanty style which takes the 904 sized yokes.

I mean I assume you know this cuz the 904 yoke would no chance go on a 727 sized output shaft, a half inch

Never assume, I’m always in a learning mode, anyway the new yoke should be here soon, but there is definitely something wrong with the current yoke.
