abs calipers

hey guys i was wondering,will abs calipers work without the ABS? i was gonna go to the junk yard my brothers freind owns and see if i cant get some parts to make a brake set up and just didnt know if i caould use calipers form a car with ABS. thanks alot

Yes, you can use calipers from an ABS equipped car. There is no difference in the calipers. The difference is in the ABS pump under the hood, wheel speed sensors (usually mounted in the hubs), and electronics.

Not sure if you'll find calipers that will bolt right up to your car, but I wish you good luck.

Ditto that. It seems easy, but if it was everybody would do it. Of course you need a custom bracket to bolt to the spindle to support the calipers. You need to find a rotor with a width that matches the caliper opening and its diameter range, clears the hub, and sits a workable distance from the spindle. Finally, it all must fit under your wheel and not bump into anything when the wheel turns.

Some pretty tricky design work. Scarebird has a solution for several Mopar spindles, using GM and Toyota parts. I have some ideas and posted photos over a year ago, but may never follow thru.

i was thinking the same thing as you bill. i was going to see if i could get a set up off of a toyota, or maybe some from a wrecked camaro, cause i know they have a million of em ranging from about 85-2001, and they dont want much for those parts. i figured if i can get everything, just cut after the ball joints i can figure out a way to mate them to either the existing control arms OR fabricate my own, which i was planning on doing anyway, but time and money constraints are in the way of that route at the moment.

the other thing i was thinking of doing was going with a mustang 2 style set up, i can get all the suspension parts and spindles from heidts or another comapany along those lines but again id have to figure out the mounting. the real upside to that is all new parts, but it costs more than the previous thought.
