AC or No AC

-
The reason I didn't have AC when I was young because I couldn't afford the extra $300 added to my 68 Roadrunner at $3000. I was 22 at the time and in the Service making peanuts for a paycheck. When I got out in 68 and got a real job every car I've bought since has had AC.

In 1976 I was in HS worked part time made $32 a week and bought a 1968 B5 blue beater 383 4 spd Gts for $75 Ohh the memories. It needed to much work so I parted it for $400 ( sorry not a/c related.) This is my a/c on.

You can use R134 without doing much if anything but just pulling a vacuum and putting it in. You only need about 2/3rds as much. Mine is a factory system and gets really cold.
There a tons of opinions on this. I don’t claim to have done it “right” (whatever that is), but mine has worked fine for a few years. Poor people have poor ways... I wouldn’t want to put expensive Freon in a old car, 50 year old hardware tend to leak.....

I’m currently running my car with no heat and no a/c. Pulled the ac off in high school, because, you know, 10 hp. 15 years later it’s still off. Pulled the heater out when replacing the harness. I used it maybe twice a year. I kept all the parts. Just felt less parts to cause issues and I’m trying to keep it operable as much as possible while my boys are in the house. Once they’re gone I’ll probably put all the stuff back together, but for now my car budget is small and is used for keeping it running and looking nice.
