I just realized that my electric choke is connected to the unswitched terminal instead of the switched terminal on the back of the fuse box. Now the dash is in the car so its not so easy to access. I pulled the screw out. Should it just pull down?

Yep. Unhook the battery (just in case) and once the screw is removed you can pull the fuse box down. The screw goes through the dash and then into the box, so you will have to lift the box up slightly and push back to clear the dash. You will have a little play in the wiring, but not a lot.

Ha ha...I was in the same predicament last weekend. I was showing my youngest how to replace a brake switch and I just sat there pondering for a minute and then said, get me a ratchet and a 1/2" socket. Two minutes later, driver seat was out and and I was telling him stories of how I "used to" work under the dash when I was much younger.

My daughter was impressed that I was able to change the brake switch on her Armada but it wasn't fun.

If this is factory wiring there should be no need to go that far. Originally, the choke was simply tied to the IGN1 "run" line, usually dark blue. This is the ONLY key switched line out into the engine bay, except for the IGN2 bypass circuit, active only during cranking.

The IGN1 "run" is powered ONLY in run and powers stuff like the ignition system, the voltage regulator, alternator field on 70/ later cars, electric choke if used, and on some newer models, a smog doo dad or two. IT IS NOT FUSED

WHAT YEAR MODEL are you working on? Important

I’ll probably connect it to the spare 4 pin ballast resistor connector (I’ve got a 2 pin ballast). I still need power for the washer pump so will use the fuse box and add another inline fuse.
