Any idea what year and model car this air cleaner would have come from originally? I don’t believe it came from an a body.

Looks like a 72 340, minus the pie tin.
That’s what I’m thinking based on Nicksgarage.com.
The pie tin could have been changed. The paint appears to be original.
I agree, its a 72 340 cleaner. I suppose they could have used the same one on big blocks but I dont think so.

I have two of those here, one has a 340 sticker on the lid & the other has one that says 400.
The housings appear identical, lids too. Only difference is the stickers.

I do not see the 400 version I have on Nick's site yet, I'll have to send him some photos.
Can I conclude 72 a body and possibly b body application as well?
I dont think the 400 version had the trap door on the bottom. That was a 72 only. At least it was for the 340.
