All 4 BBLs not opening?

I just had my carb rebuilt, and it kicks down ok, but doesn't seem like all 4 barrells are opening. It is really sluggish.

When the car is sitting at idle, and I stab the throttle, the squirters are spraying out a big stream.

Any other ideas . . . that I can check . . . before taking the car back to the mechanic?

What is it? Carter,Holley,etc.? Did you install it or did the mechanic? I had a mechanic rebuild an AVS on my truck. He put a kit in and it wouldn't open the back barrels. Mechanic couldn't figue out what went wrong, so I drove it home. Poped the hood and messed with it. No matter what the back barrels would not open. :cussing: I did notice that it felt like the butterflies were hitting when I would push throttle open by hand. I took the carb of and found the gasket needed a little triming to keep from catching the butterflies. Bolted it back on and ta da. It worked perfect. :headbang: I went back and told the mechanic how I fixed it. :butthead:

Are the secondaries mechanical or vacuum?

It's a Carter AFB (original to the car)

I'm not too smart about the mechanical or vacuum issue.

If its a Carter AFB,they are mechanical sec's.

Check and make sure the fast idle cam is completely off. There is a tang on the secondary throttle shaft that interferes with the fast idle cam to prevent the secondaries from opening when the motor's cold and the choke is on.Also,check the carb gasket for interference. The secondaries are actuated by a spring setup on the passenger side of the carb. If the sec. plates are just sticky in their bores,the spring will not overcome the blockage.

AMEN! I'm so far removed . . . sometimes I have to remember what my Dad used to tell me.......

It's a damned good thing (for THEM) he didn't know that he actually INVENTED/OWNED what ended up being patents on tools that are now being sold by MAC and SnapOn....

Dad BENT and WELDED is OWN tools................

Don't know if you've changed anything or gone from a 2 barrell, however you may want to check your throttle linkage. First I'd disconnect all your linkage (throttle, kickdown, etc.) and make sure the carb will fully open mechanically. Then hook everything back up, then have someone fully depress the gas peddle (vehicle off) and you manually check to see if your primary and secondary (if mechanical) are fully open. I used a factory 4 bbl. linkage when converting from 2 to 4 bbl. and had to do quit a bit of modifying to get full opening on my Holley.
