So i upgraded my alternator to a 60 amp but kept my old voltage regulator. I've learned that it is only rated to 46 amp. It worked for a while but its been surging and its extremely apparent when using my head lights. It finally gave way and I'm running off the battery now. My question is if I upgrade my voltage regulator to a 60 amp single field to work with my alternator will it fix this. And will it work with the rest of my cars electrical system. I'm working on a 1969 dodge dart /6.

Actually the same regulator should work. I would NOT upgrade to what you are calling a "single field." I'd ask for a mid 70's which is isolated field and either ground one field and use your old regulator or else add one more wire to convert to the 70 and later regulator

The mid 70's "squareback" alternator has much better low RPM charging output

You want the one on the left

Also adding a Great Big Alternator to your factory wiring is asking for trouble.
