Question. For those running aftermarket aluminum heads and intakes, bare no paint or polish, what do you do to keep them from oxidizing and looking like crap?

I don't have any aluminum heads, but on intakes I use VHT aluminum paint after a good coat of VHT primer. I don't clear over it because it yellows and looks like rotten dog butt.

Really tempting to go back to my original idea of painting the heads

Hey Chris the sharkhide works great on the intake but not on the heads I coated my aluminum heads with it and it didn't hold up. Coated everything with it and 10,000 miles and it is still good.

When you say it didn’t hold up, did it harm the underlying metal or just kind of burn off?

Only problem was the front of the heads around the plugs was fine.

I paint it all block color including the intake after I've polished off any scripts, markings, or provision used in the aid of machining them when new.

If you want to paint it so it looks like raw aluminum I would use Seymour Aluma Blast and that looks really nice for years.

And thermostat gasket was leaking for a long time and I kept it cleaned up and no staining.
