Amazing prices on used parts!

-
I understand the concept of " These are private individuals parts and they want to get as much as possible" how ever they acquired them. I wasn't trying to piss anyone off , just wondering in amazement that people are actually buying at some of the prices listed for. For the most part I think we've all watched to much car shows and lost a grip on reality . When its all said and done, they are still 50 -60 years old cars that you probably will not get your $$$ back out of, so you better put em in your WILL.

I watched a man in St. Pete Fl. pay $6000.00 for a 66 NOS quarter panel for a 66 Hemi Satelite. He also stated if he could find the other side he would pay $10,000.00 for the other side. This was 10 years ago. I would never pay that, But then I couldn't afford to pay that! Parts are worth what a person is willing to pay, Period! The above is a fact! I delivered the quarter panel to the man.

Is there a difference in a Hemi quarter panel and a 318 quarter panel?

No but then he wouldn't PAY 6K for a quarter panel for a 318 car. TRY, and find a NOS 318 or Hemi quarter panel for a 66 Satelite?
I wonder what I could get for a slightly used NOS /6 starter that will fit a Hemi, You still know that guy?

But if you ever find some NOS 66 Satelite 318 quarter panels in perfect shape, left or right or both, I'll pay you $250.00 each for as many as you can find. That's a fair price eh?

I am not a CL fan like many, BUT sometimes I meet some real people on there... ie ....called guy last week, he had at one time a pasture full of old mopars, most have been sold, parted, remains of crushed, still have a couple of rough projects, (no titles) make offer.....He still has many parts, and prices???? make offer!!!! I like " make offer"!!

Texas is a big place......BUT when price of scrap got high, most everything around here got crushed......back in Mo you could swing a dead cat and hit 3 old mopars...
I'm from outside the ST. LOUIS area, and maybe because of the FENTON plant, there were Mopars laying around all over the place. Nothin more fun than slingin dead cats at old mopars. LOL I just love cats.

The younger generation knows nothing of having to drive to West Virginia to get an original Hurst shifter out of a 70 340 Duster, well before there was a Internet. Only to find out it has the wrong handle. I bought it anyway. Or back when you asked for a "picture", the seller took 35 mm pics had them developed and then mailed them to you, (if you were lucky). No now days it is much easier to sit behind a monitor and ***** about parts being to high! It's very simple, if you don't like the price, keep clicking on by!

Keepin a lookout in all the bulletin boards, penny pincher, local paper, the backs of magazines. That kinda stuff is all we had. While things might have more plentiful, they were harder to locate.

Yep couldn’t wait for the weekly buy, sell, and trade . I think they were a dollar !

Auto Trader, Bargain Trader, Truck Trader, Hemmings, News paper classifieds, every local classified periodical , and word of mouth. Before 1998, that was what most people relied on to find parts, cars, and projects. This was old school networking!

I agree on supply and demand, but if you realize right now 60 and 70s mopars is at a premium, because the majority of us are baby boomers with some money, but like my son who never set foot in a Abody or Bbody could care less and as we boomers die off , so the price and demand for these cars are going down, most kids born in the 80s and 90s are looking for daytonas /laser/and 2.5 tubos and rice burners, i remember when 40 ford coupes, 49 fords, henry js and 56 /57 chevys and crown vics was at a premium, but i never drove one and could give a horses *** less , if they sell for a $1000 or $10000, i don't want them, but a 69 bee, challenger,70 duster, or roadrunner catches my eye, point is 20 years from now when the boomers are dead or in a nursing home, the generation coming behind us with the exception of a few will sell the cars we fixed and admired, they will sell them for next to nothing, some may not agree , but my uncle passed away, he had a 55,56, and 57 chevy he had restored ,had over $100,000 he spent fixing them, but at his passing his daughter and son sold them for next to nothing because they had never drove these as teens and would rather have a toyota or nissan

Agree, you only need to look at the price of a nice Model A? As that crowd slipped away,so did the price of them.

Ya when we croke our wifes new hubby will sell all our crap for nothin and take a trip . Bastard. I'm takin mine with me.

Plenty of people in the Mopar hobby in their 40;s 50;s, yes the younger gen is more into what they are more familiar with, but the prices of our cars keeps many away.
Wife and I stopped at area car show today on way to something else, probably 100 and better cars, 3 mopars ( 2 - 69 and 1 70 b body) the rest you know what's. I stopped to look at a nice 4 door 57 chevy and the owner and his wife visited with us. This man was in early-mid 40's has been working on this car last 20 years. Beautiful more door, all he lacked was some door panels and a headliner looked like. You cold tell he loved this car, and liked it because he could haul the family in it also. Said he never has been able to afford a 2 door 57 He did not expect to win a trophy, spent is $25 to participate and donate it to charity .
He is a car guy. MY kind of guy. He is a real man. No ego, fat check book........ how many there could say the same???????????/

Slam dunk right here..... This is exactly the example I remind people of when they think their blah, blah, blah is gonna be worth X one day. I will most likely see it in my lifetime. Or the next recession lol...

Another case of more money then brains:rolleyes::rolleyes:

How difficult will parts be 20 years from now? I'm finding parts at swap-meets that the seller can't identify, they're cleaning out their "long gone" daddy's garage attic. If I recognize it, as a desirable part, I usually come away with it in hopes to bring it to a place where it belongs...If I make a couple dollars to cover expenses I won't feel bad, but the attempt is to get it to a home.

My interests are of the 60's and early 70's because these are the cars that I grew up with, or dreamed about when I was still putting baseball cards in my bicycle spokes. Will interests fade when we pass on? I suspect that the majority in this neighborhood are 50+ years old, I broke the 60 mark two years ago. The kids today are exposed to other shinny motor vehicles.

Imagine a web site called "For Prius Olny.com" ....probably already exists

I always wanted 55 chevy hotrod, yo know, fiberglass front, 4 speed, 327, rolled and tucked black interior, maroon outside........ going back to bought '64......OKkkkkkkkk......I am 70 now, so I figure if I can out live some of my baby boomers generation by what maybe another 15 years, I can pick up a nice one for around $4000!??????????

BTttttttt,,,,,,, with inflation, that $4000 in 15 years will be like $40,0000 and with cost of living.....in 15 years I will be living off squirrels, possums, coon anyway.....and I won't be able to afford gas for the '55 not to mention I won't be able to work the clutch, or half *** see where I am driving!!?????????????????// And maybe be so damn senile I can't find my way back home????????????//

Hardly found my way back yesterday!
