A friend staying with us is having his car repossessed this week (real bummer)....One of those predatory financing deals where the bank gets 25+% interest, and won't lower it.....with his last trade (a Sebring that literally fell apart), the loan is now over $500. a month, and they want him to pay 30 grand for a car that books for about $8500............What a joke.

Anyway, we found a VERY nice 78 Volare Wagon with a six, nearly perfect throughout......it could pass for a showroom cruiser as is....even has ice-cold 134a........asking price is $2600. clean, and the car needs nothing.

We're pondering the idea of a customization, maybe to a "Duster Wagon" (full front end conversion) or possibly a RR Wagon project (to mirror the last RR).

Anyone out there have any of these cars?...........We'd like to see what you've done with one.

Thanks.................... Doc :coffee2: :toothy7:

I had a Black with an orange stripe 76 Dodge Aspen R/T 360 4-speed I pulled out of a junk yard once. I planned on restoring it until a divorce in 98! It was a good looking car in its day! I always thought an Aspen wagon R/T 4-speed car would have been something neat!

when i was a young lad we had a volare wagon with the wood paneling on the outside and everything. took many family vacations in that car, my sister and i would fight it out in the back all the time. i think it would have made the perfect sleeper grocery-getter.

If there are any pics available of some custom wagons out there, PLEASE post them here in a reply...........

I've been studying this car for days now (pictures), and think this thing could be made to look really mean, and get up and go to boot.

This is all this guy is going to have to work with for now, so if anybody has any workable ideas, let's hear 'em! (other than some nice mags & tires, which will be the first addition).

are you kidding us? that pic looks like it was taken back in 78 when it came home for the first time!

and everyone knows that the wagon is making a comeback ie the magnum :headbang:

Seriously though, rims, window tint and a couple of 15's in the back, and thats it!

now if I could just find a duster that nice.

Would the wheelwell flares & spoiler from a Super Coupe fit? I'd think they would. If I could get one, I'd swap the grille, too. Here's an ad from 1978. Sorry it's not very high quality.

Either a hopped to hell slant or a 360 with a lumpy cam, duel pipes out the back with some loud rumble cans, rims, tint as dark as you can and get away with it, slammed on it's knees, primer black or leave it the stock color. Low and loud cruzer!!!

What's the bolt pattern on this Wagon.....? Anybody know for sure?.........................AND, is it still the old reliable Chrysler Slant 6 in there, or was that 6 changed somehow in 78 ???

:wav:

I would drive the wagon as is and save money to pay off debts and get myself back on my feet. I would also NEVER use credit again.

Trust me, I am speaking from been there, done that, and didnt even have a freaking tshirt left to wear.

Look at daveramsey.com and help your friend out.

Good luck!!
