Anybody adapted different knob to Cheetah?

I'm not all that enthused about the T handle on a Cheetah. Thinking of tearing down the spare shifter and doing some "work."

Anybody ever adapted a different knob, T handle, etc?

Some searching indicates that Winters is the pretty much the same AND CHEAPER

Replacement cables are more than 30 bucks less than what is commonly listed for Cheetah
