My Duster has a Frigi-King ac unit,I am sure it's aftermarket but it looks similar to the Chrysler units. The vents are in the same spot underneath the dash.

Anyone here have one of these units in their duster or dart? Some of the ducts are broken away near the drivers side and I was wondering if I would be better off hunting for a factory mopar unit to replace it with or if I should try and find a replacement vent assembly,if that's even possible.

I'd also be interested in hearing how these units perform as that would also influence my decision.

Thanks.

Call auto seat company in harrisburg pa I think they used to install them.

Thanks for the tip,I'll give them a try. I need to replace all the rubber lines too,I just didn't want to mess with it until I knew if the vent parts were available. I am sure there are also modern compressors that would put less drag on the engine too.

I SOOO want to post,the German A.C ,M.W.C. clip.

The Kaiser! :D:D here ya go "Milner" :D :happy1:

For factory air.. the vents in the earlier models were chrome plated pot metal. Later models had black plastic vents. While the rest of the assembly is different in how it attaches to the rest of the factory unit, those vents will interchange.
Your Fridgi-King is a dealer installed look alike unit But is different from those factory assemblies. Yours has a lot of parts mounted inside. The factory assemblies were empty.
I wont go out and risk getting wasp stings to confirm but I suspect any of the small rectangle vents will interchange with yours including those chromed ones.

Thanks for the info redfish,I sure don't expect you to go get stung on my account.:D That's good news though.these ducts and vents are all plastic.I wish they were metal.

So basically these Frigi-King units were installed at the Chrysler dealership for customers who didn't order a/c and later regretted it? Why didn't the Chrysler deal just install factory Chrysler units instead of aftermarket ones?

Post a picture of your under dash unit.
GM FORD Chev' all subcontracted the heat and a/c assemblies to Murray and others.
Dealer installed air could be any brand including those once sold by Sears.
Add on air is no different from radios and other things a dealer could do to make a sale.
Customer says, " that's everything I'm looking for but it needs a/c". Salesman says "Not a problem". The look alike units allowed dealer to add a/c before it was asked for just to attract customers.
At the Ford dealership we would buy what was called Pony edition Escort and clone a GT with aftermarket parts. Result was lower price GT than the next dealer had.

And by the way.. the chromed pot metal vents pitted badly. Louvers pivoted on the same sewing needle sized posts, just as easily broken. Easiest way to renew those is have the black plastic chromed. That wont last very long either. Air passing over will blow the vacuum metalized chrome away.
