Glad you got it all figured out.....if you were still having troubles with it i was going to ask where your dryer was located such as in a basement or something where the temperatures are cooler......I have dealt with furnaces in garages and what not where the temperatures are cooler and giving the same problem.....come on for a very short period and then shut off,then come back on and so on and so on......the problem was the thermal limit switch (the thin metal disc that heats up and pops to drop continuity) it was so cold that the disc was popping in and out erratically and the ambient temperature needed to be raised before the furnace would kick on and maintain a temperature that the limit switch could operate under.
I just figured I would ad this tid bit of info with the cooler months....someone else may run into a problem similar to your down the road and stumble accross the thread.
