Anyone Ever Had a Car Sold Out From Under You?

-
Yep, too many people are looking to buy something right then, but can't pay for it until they get their next paycheck. If you ask me, they have nothing to complain about if it gets sold before they can get the money. If the guy is accepting deposits then its another story. Too many people kick tires and go back and forth on purchases. Especially expensive ones. When you get that one guy who shows up with cash, you can't pass it up for a guy who doesn't have the money yet.

I've had cars "sold from under me". Its irritating for sure.......now when I buy cars, if its something I really want I take the day off work and head straight over to wherever the vehicle is, I dont wait till Saturday. I've lost out on some really good stuff because I told the person i'll come over Saturday mornin'.

I love paypal. I dont care if its a monopolistic greedy capitalistic venture that rapes you 5% everytime you use it BECAUSE: You agree to sell a part and the guy says "Ill get a MO in the mail" Well it could be friday evening and the mail doesnt go out till monday or whatever, you are stuck with that part hanging out on the net until the promised MO shows up, hope your not in Ozarkville at the end of a dirt road that doesnt get mail but one day a week or its sitting in a PO box...Paypal is almost instant. Seal the deal and the paypal is there in 5 minutes if the guy is slow on the net. Hardly any longer. You get the part out the next day (or next business day) and the both you are happy. Im waiting on a MO myself right now, and there may be a sent one of mine still in the mail today, both are a question mark until I get a confirmation or an Email back saying "I got it" or something. I did get an intake sold from under me while my MO was IN THE MAIL! The dude said it never showed up so he sold it to the next guy, no call, no nothing. Hell, I never got the MO back until I opened a fraud alert with the PO. 6 months later I get a check from the PO for the MO amount. F that hassle...Im all about deposits if they think youll hold it for them. Keeps you both honest. I took 1/2 deposit for a polished air-gap and I never heard from the guy again, 3 months later I just returned the deposit cash to the return address, and never even a comment on that act, sheesh!

True 'dat.

havent seen the original poster make a comment. i wonder what the whole story is.

couple things people can learn from this post...

  1. mans word isnt a mans word.
  2. dont go looking at something to buy without the full value in cash in your pocket cause it can be sold to someone else in the time you go to the bank and back.
I have sold a couple cars to people. one guy gave me $100 deposit and i never saw him again. one guy gave me $200 then backed out.

Its weird when you tell people that the deposit isnt refundable and they start getting cold feet....Are you going to buy the damn thing or what? whats the big deal.

When i went to look at my duster i drove south across the boarder to sumner ( 3 hours away) i liked it, but i couldnt bring it home because you have to give 3 days notice at the US/canada boarder. so i gave a $500 deposite and wrote up a receipt and headed for home.

Well my truck broke down on the way home somewhere by the outlet mall and the casino on I5. I was stranded there for 3 hours till my tow truck came down to get me. $350 tow bill and $300 cell phone bill for roaming charges.

I called the seller the next day and said what happend and that i might have to back out depending on the costs to fix my truck. I told him i understand if he keeps the deposit but it would be nice if i could get it back. I told him i would call him once i found out what was wrong with the truck.

later that night i thought about it and decided to buy the car regardless of what happens with the truck. in the end of the day it didnt matter cause what if the truck broke down two days after buying the duster. i would still have to fix the truck after buying the duster anyways.

sorry about the long story...there are some exceptions to the deposit rule...but even i knew that if i backed out, there was a chance he might keep the deposit even though i had a valid reason.

this reminds me of another story of some fabo member buying a car from a kid on fabo and not getting the regi or other parts or something. then he was complaining on here that he is getting screwed. i called him on it and said why would you buy a car in full when the regi wasnt there? he wasnt happy with me.

My original post .. I was wondering if anyone else out there believed in ..When a Man gives his word if it meant anything..still in this day and time..yes there will be other deals..

I had a carb sold from "under" me at a Fling, the thing was in my hands getting inspected and some schmuck walks up, hands the guy a $50 and literally takes the carb out of my hands! Talk about huevos! I look a the seller, WTF? He shrugs his shoulders and shows me the 50. I walked away a wiser man, although I was still up $50...

Yes many I don't care to talk about.I think the worst was back in 1991.It was a very clean low mile survivor 1971 Charger R/T 440,4 speed, console, dana, air grabber, backlight lover, chin spolier, tor red car.I bugged the Guy for a few years to sell me the car.I told him if he ever sells the car to let me know first.I saw him one day and ask him if he was ready to sell me the Charger yet?He said I just sold it a few weeks ago for $2200.00.I said Craig I would have given you 5-6K for the car.His reply was WHAT!!! I am still pissed over this one...
