Anyone Frustrated with the Economy?

-
Lets see; without GE how many jobs are gone?Without GE how many shareholders would not pay any taxes.Without GE how many employees would not be paying taxes? Now lets say-the same number of entitled would not be paid, the outcome would definately be better for the economy-also the number of people in the US would go down as there would be NO reason for them to be here.

It sucks..Been out of work for quite a while. Went to school to up my education in hopes of finding some kind of employment. We will see...

When all the American jobs are gone, who will be left to buy all these Chinese goods?

LOL, oh god...... You pull out the extreme and ridiculous card again.

Who mentioned getting rid of GE? Im just talking about paying some taxes. If you are making billions and using the entire infrastructure of the US to move and sell your product, don't you think you should pay some tax?

Or maybe you are for freeloading. Sounds like you need to get down with your OWS buddies and have a nice sandwich from the food tent.

Sorry but you can't possibly be as ignorant and stupid as you appear on here. You must be trolling.

Do some research cowboy..... GE took 25 million in stimulus money, then laid-off 18,000.

Not paying taxes was just a bonus.

Thats right..... You are defending "sucking off the system". You sound more like a closet liberal everyday.

Did GE make a profit during the period - on their US operations??? If you don't make any money just what is it they are supposed to pay taxes on?? If they received stimulus money it is not likely that they made any money here either.

You sound like another liberal socialist too. I guess you support government handouts.

Using the entire infrastructure of the US, tax free, while making billions in worldwide profits isn't much different than buying beer and cigarettes with your welfare check.

You men take heart. My parents lived through the great depression and my wife and I through three recessions with me working as a carpenter/contractor. We've been broke many time but never felt poor. The real wealth is having family and friends, keep them close.

JB

Everyone should seek advice from the late, great, Milton Friedman.

Buddy, I am about as far right and conservative as they come. You seem pretty free at throwing around the insults on here. I do not, did not, support any bailouts.... The topic has focused on companies not paying taxes. Having spent decades in business I think I know a little bit about US Tax laws. I'll look at the link to better understand the GE situation but you can bet that anything they did was completely legal. There is very, very little a company can do to avoid paying taxes on profits - other than reinvestments.

Watched a segment on 60 minutes last night about how the people in Washington that make the laws are free to participate in the open stock market even though they get plenty of insider trading info. Funny how so many of them have made a BUNCH of cash in the stock market. Funnier how most of them were told to pull their money in a closed door meeting that had everyone leave their phones and blackberries outside of the room. Pelosi made out like a bandit:)

Might be borderline legal, but what about thier ethics? Simply caring about thier company is not enough..

Well, it's time for me to chime in and add some good news and some bad.

As a result of the way the Federal Government has messed everything up, I have greatly benefited.

My home loan is now at 2% and my house payment has dropped by $1,000. I had to take out an adjustable mortgage back in 2003 in order to keep my house. I began paying out $2,700 monthly and now it is $1700.

However, since the Federal Government just can't stand for the common guy to get ahead, I am now paying higher Income tax since I am no longer paying that $1,000 per month to the bank.

The extra cash has made it possible for me to buy my Duster and parts from members of FABO. If I didn't have to save $500 per month to pay the Income Tax increase then I might have bought more parts. I definitely would have bought a new car or contracted some home improvements or both but I have to save that money for the Government.

Things will always sell at some price point. People get stuck on absolute dollar values and have trouble dealing with inflation or deflation (have some now). My grandpa used to rant how he spent $25K on an aluminum carport (1976), which was more than he paid for the house (~1946).

Low prices are bad if you are forced to sell, and troubling to people who imagine their stock funds are a current bank deposit, even if they have no need to sell now. If you are buying, low prices are great, whether stocks or cars. The problem with depression is that overall productivity drops if fewer people are working and fewer have money to buy.

Unfortunately, kids graduating high school in recent years and carrying this mindset are way behind the 8 ball. The Internet age drove local and Mom & Pop businesses away. This has been going on for quite some time now. If you're young, my advice is to finish college and get a job that requires a degree. The "old school" way of finishing High School and getting a job & working your way up the ladder will end up in a dead end for most kids nowadays.

I'm glad you found a way to recover. Some of my friends out here on the West Coast who took on adjustable rate mortgages are not doing so well. So congrats.

Yes getting an education MIGHT help...If you graduate near the top of your class.

After your out of school you still need to find a job,so hopefully things have changed for the better once your out.

Here is some food for thought. Is your 2% a fixed rate through out the entire loan or is it a varible rate? Some loans are cheap but in 5 or 10 years they rewrite the loan under new terms. If you took 1/2 of that $500 left over after taxes and put it on your home loan shortly you would have an extra payment already made. Seven months and you have an extra house payment in reserve. Fourteen months and you have two extra house payments in reserve. This can save you in case of a bump in the road and will protect your credit rating if there is a bump. It also looks great to creditors when you are making payments over and above on any loan. I used this method all my life and it has came in real useful. Like I said some food for thought and not else.

Not really. I had a 1.8 GPA in high school. I came very close to not graduating. Went to Junior College (averaged 2.8 ) before transferring to State where I also averaged 2.8. Total time invested in college was 5 years. I'm not making money hand over fist, but I can live pretty comfortably and enjoy my hobbies (Mopars, Guns, Basses, etc). I bought a 2012 5.0 two months ago and a Colt 1911 the other day. That's here in the SF Bay Area in CA where cost of living isn't cheap. After I graduated, I worked for a good 8 years to get to the level of income where I'm at now. I didn't stick with one position within the company either. I kept moving laterally and up until I found a position I was satisfied with.

I'm not sure why a good percentage of America's youth have this impression that getting a post HS degree wouldn't be beneficial. It's short sighted. Getting an education WILL HELP MORE OFTEN THAN NOT.

The other option is military. The military garners a good deal of respect nowadays and you can get a good education at the same time. My best friend in HS went this route. He worked on heavy equipment in the Army and now works as a Diesel mechanic for a local city. I think he makes more than me. I also see a lot of companies specifically target individuals with a military background. When I was growing up, the military was perceived as a destination if you didn't work or go to college. Not anymore. The military is an extremely viable option and just as respectable if not more. My respect for our Servicemen (and Women) grow on a daily basis.

I took me several years of wasting my life away after HS to realize this. In hindsight, I wish I hit the books harder instead of partying all the time. I won't get those 5 years back...5 years I could've used getting ahead with what I know now.

Hey Thrashahrd340,I had to think back to when I graduated from my operator class, lol. I think it had more to do with family connections in his case,lol...
