IIRC, the speed sensor was inline with the speedo cable, not at the transmission.

Great, thanks I'll now look at the car and see if it was left with it or taken. The previous owner was on his way to parting it out.

It was in the middle of the 2 piece speedo cable. looks like a small can with a wire coming out of it.

Found it. It has a mounting bracket on the drive side inner fender, by the master cylinder. Speedo in speedo out and one wire push connector.
