Anyone running 15x6 or 15x7 rear wheels on an early-a?
Wondering about tire fitment and if 15x7 rubs on the fenders in the back.

I run 15x8's with 5 1/2 inch back space, and springs moved in 3/4 inch. Tires have been 275/60 M/T Drag radial or Hooser 28x9 slicks. I have finger clearance all the way around.

64 Darts both have 15x7 on the rear. 61 Lancer has 15X8 all around

Sounds good, thanks all. I am guessing tire choices are plenty in this size. 14s are becoming rare/expensive.

There are plenty, but even they are starting to dry up.

My '66 actually rubs just a little bit, but the rear end is saggy. For about another week that is.

I was thinking 15x6 on the front and 15x7 or 8 on the rear of my 65.

I am running 14x8 on the rear of my 66 with no issues.
If that helps any.

I know you didn't ask, but for the future, maybe? 18 x 8.5 06 Mustang GT wheels, springs relocated to frame, Nitto 255/50/18 tires, mounted on a stock width 8.8 furd rear out of a 2000 explorer. 1/2 inch room all sides.

I am running 15 X 7 rear steel with 235 60 MT ET street radial tires. No rubbing.

My rear end was off, so I couldn't do it, but 15x8s should fit with 245 60s on with no clearance issues, just so long as the body is straight and parallel with the springs...

15 x 7 on the front and 15 x 8 on the back. If I had another 1/8 backspacing on the back they would be perfect, but as they are now the just touch the inner wheel well at full compression.

The springs are in the factory location.

The key to wheel fitment is in the back spacing or offset. A bodies likes a 7 inch wheel with 4.25 to 4.5 inches of back spacing to center the tire in the space available. The bests way to find the best fitment is with a strait edge and a ruler, measure from the face of the brake drum to every thing the wheel and tire could contact inside and outside and get a wheel that best centers it in this space.

Understood. I am running stock springs so I will measure before I look into 15's.

I have 15X8's all the way around with, I think, 4.5" of back spacing. Front tires are 195-60R15 and rears are 215-60R15. This is the way I bought the car and, Yeah, those rims are too wide for the tires they have on them. Springs are in the stock location which would probably limit me to a 235 tire on the back, hopefully 70 series to get a little height for highway driving, with a 7" rim with the same back spacing. Fronts? Thinking on maybe a 215-65R15 on a 7" rim or possibly a 6" rim. Thoughts?

Good information, guys. I bought a set of 15x6 steelies that I'm thinking of having custom widened to 8" by adding the two inches as backspacing. I figure that will give me good tire width while preventing the notorious rubbing problems us early-A guys and gals have to deal with, and I get to keep a semi-stock look to it. Fzmax, I gotta say I love the stance on your '63.

What are the tallest series tire in a 15 inch wheel that can fit in the early-a wheel wells?
