I would believe the numbers are correct over there. I am a member there too and during busy times you can post and then come back to it 10 min. later and it's 3 pages back. lol tmm

Hard to believe but it's prob so...I am a walking ,talking dinosuer along with my toys..love the challengers, know they are the wave of the future but yet I choose to be stuck in the grips of yesteryear muscle and cars kinda like a time warp...my idea of having a new chally is wait a few years get one from salvage/wrecked or sitting in someones yard, drag it home and stuff a 440 in it and rip the snot outta it..yea I know I'm rambling...I'm still trying to find where the freakin distributor is in these cars..lol..what no dist? wtf...they already took our carbs from us ..what next?..dial a cam and gear selection from the steering wheel?...we are being phased out just like the cave men...

The cam timing is now being changed in the newer engines while running with no degree wheel. Amazing what technology brings us.

That old school 440 in a new Challenger sounds like a cool idea. I'm with ya there. One thing I miss with the new engines is the rough cam idle. You can't get that with the new ones. Although I heard of a program chip that cuts out cylinders to make it idle rough.. LOL Welcome to 2013. tmm

I'd do it the other way,...New engine/technology in an old Chally,...

I guess I'm stuck somewhere betwixt the dinosaur crowd and the new and different crowd...

that and an actual gas pedal, I hate the drive by wire crap.

I have accepted both worlds... I do love the *New* Challenger's comfort (must be getting old) and ride. But yet, I love working on my Old baby... because I grew up with carbs with throttle linkage and distributors with points and plug wires... Those days are gone for the new generation...

By the way, I also hate that "Drive by wire"... But I live with it because I have my other "Toy" to fall back on !!!

Accept it guys, we are all "Dinosaurs"...

I'm a member on both sites and those numbers are accurate.

I own a couple of '60s era Mopars and a '09 Challenger SRT as well. As much as I love old Mopars and making them go fast, I really, really, really enjoy my Challenger. It has a Vortech supercharger and makes 560 hp while getting 27 hwy mpg. It has extremely good street manners when not in boost. Not only is it fast but it can turn corners, stop on a dime and cruise in comfort. My Barracuda is quicker but only in a straight line. Stopping it is an adventure and I drag the door knobs when turning a corner.

I don't know about putting a 440 in a new Challenger. They are much heavier for one. The big block in my '64 Fury makes about 500 hp but doesn't have good street manners and gets less than 10 mpg. Of course, the trade off is that I can't fix everything on my Challenger like I can on the older cars and, as noted before, there's no rumpety rump at idle.

The drive by wire is my biggest complaint on my challenger, to me it is just not as responsive as a old school throttle cable is.

I am not a fan of the throttle by wire either. I ease of the gas and the car keeps going at speed until the computer figures out what I want it to do. I push down on the pedal and the puter waits a second or two before it accelerates the car. It is different story if I stomp on it. That's a clear signal!
What I really miss is being able to goose the throttle in rhythm to get the front end to bounce up and down. A friend of mine used to do that in first gear and time it so that he could pull the front tires of the ground for a second.
Overall, I like the comfort of today's LX platform with the easy power and gas mileage of the Gen III HEMI.
