I was hired as a Wildlife monitor and security for the Kluskus Fire. Here are some random pictures I took while out there. Sorry for the crappy quality, still learning my new Nikon camera.

Life still goes on around the fires

Even when you think a fire is out, it can start right back up

Devastation

Look close and you can see smoke from a fire on the hills behind

Where there is smoke there can be fire

Our gas station while out there

53km Valley. Take note of this valley for future pictures

There were spot fires that kept appearing. The main fire was over 50km away but sparks still managed to keep lighting small fires everywhere

There Forestry service wasn't too concerned until open flames were spotted so these were smoking like this for days

I had to drive that road through here at least twice a day to and from my shift

Same Valley where a spot fire flamed up

Looking left of the spot fires in the Valley

Such a beautiful spot

The lodge at Fishpot Lake Resort where we were living while working

The view from the front porch of my cabin

Such a beautiful spot

Looking towards the playground

Fishpot Lake

More of the lake

My cabin

More cabins. I have pictures of the interior of my cabin if anyone is interested

A deer I spotted from about 400 yards off

Notice the ear?

I had actually snuck up to 100 yards and could have easily gotten closer but my coworker decided she would start yelling at the deer "so it would look at you and you could get better pictures". Instead it took off bouncing

A helicopter waiting to pick up the supervisors

The second fire I spotted and called in

Wasn't too much wind so it wasn't growing too fast

Snap crackle pop

Picking up a little

Called it in again and advised they get a helicopter with a bucket

I was told to ignore it and they would put it out the next day. By that time it had tripled in size but they got it out

Another fire I spotted. 10 minutes earlier I drove past and it was just smoke. When I came back small flames caught my eye

A minute later you can now see flames just peaking out of the top

Another minute goes by

I called this one in and was once again told to ignore it

The flames are now about 20 feet tall

The fire was about 30 feet or so from the road where I was standing

At 30 feet high the heat from the flames was intense

I think I should be going now

One more picture first

Remember the valley at 53km from before?

Called it in again and strongly advised they send a helicopter....

Immediately!

A supervisor drives up and makes like she found the fire and called in for a helicopter which shows up immediately

I missed getting a picture of them hitting the fire with the first bucket so here is the steam

There was a lake about 1000 yards away so two helicopters were flying back and forth tag teaming the blaze

The truck was a friend of mine who was out there working. He owns the Mcleese Lake pub. He is directing the helicopters

Bombs away

The steam was so thick I was wonder how the pilots could see

Working quickly! Would have been easier if they had listened to my at the start :p

A second fire started while working on the first so they put that one out too

Anyone need a shower?

Goodnight sweet flames

One bucket was enough

Looked over after the helicopters were gone and spotted this guy

Grabbing something to eat

Then back onto his perch to watch the show

Then I looked up and spotted this girl right across the road

She was just minding her own business

Watching the show

Tree planters years ago made these lean toos to sleep in

Sunet

This truck only had 4000km when it went over a 50 foot embankment

The owners just left it there and ICBC bought them a new truck. Been sitting there ever since

Spotted this guy running down the road

I called out to see if he would stop

I think he heard me

Skinny and scraggly

Just a squirrel at my cabin

I got bored one morning and decided I would try to photograph a dragon fly

They wouldn't land so I had to take pictures of them in flight

Not as easy as it sounds

Then I went to try for a Hummingbird

I swear the dragonflies were easier to photograph

Quack

Guess it was something I said

Aw come back

Fine go away I don't want to take pictures of you anyways

Hawks above

What are you looking at?

Majestic

Some horses that belonged to a local outfitter

Wild horses

A curious little colt

The Alpha male. He made sure to keep a really close eye on me

The Colts mother

The Baezaeko River

Another beautiful spot

Trying to be artistic

More hawks

Finally it landed

Im not artistic I'm a hipster

Fire got bad enough again they called in water bombers the day I was leaving

#7 and #9 planes

Definitely a hipster

Thanks for those awesome pics!!! Question for you... How do those little spot fires just start out of nothing??? Or was this a location of a previous fire??

Very beautiful crisp clear photos. Clearer than my eyes can see by themselves.
You have the camera mastered sir.

Absolutely beautiful pics!! I especially like the pics of the lake and the wild horses!! Some REALLY nice horses in that bunch! Look to be well fed too!!
