I am doing body and paint on a friends 73 duster w/ auto on the floor. He wanted me to cut all the brackets off the floor because he was going to install some sort of aftermarket shifter. I talked him into keeping the original shifter. He said he wanted to get rid of it because he doesnt like the original shifter handle but he likes the console. Has anyone replaced the original shifter handle with some thing different ? He really doesnt like the fake wooden knob.

What about a pistol grip automatic handle?

I bought one from Rick and I also bought one from Quapman best way to contact him is through his Facebook page called autogripshifter. Quapman shifter has the trigger. See pictures below installed in my Charger.

1970 E-body slapstick. There was a longer handle in the later 1970s B-bodies (I've got one of those as well). Pic is a friends.

Upper arm on the through-floor rod needs to be shortened to 2.25" (center of hole to center of hole).

Yep, I vote for the chrome 69 and earlier shift knob (post #8)! The rest of the shift assembly is the same - 20 minute change and retains the original mechanism.. If he scraps the original system, somebody here wants it!

I think you can retrofit an E body slapstick in there fairly easy.
