I bought an Autometer electronic oil pressure gauge and the corresponding Autometer gauge cup for electrical gauges.

I have a problem where the two long brass studs on the back of the gauge are in fact TOO long to actually mount the gauge flush within the cup.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Wondering if I can just cut the studs down a bit to make it fit, since I won’t be using them anyway.

Really sucks that after paying all that money, I still have to modify it for it to work correctly…

FYI - Autometer just wrote me back and told me that trimming the brass studs is necessary and will NOT void the warranty.
Apparently they have "new" instructions for these gauges/cups (pdf attached).

wow, I would expect better from a brand name company

on a side note, how does the bracket look that is supposed to mount on those studs?
and if it has the extra little leg, do you plan to use it ?

like the one for the oil pressure gauge in this for sale thread

are you talking about the silver thing off to the right in photo #2? If so, then yes, mine came with it and I do not plan on using it (it's black though, not silver). My gauge is 2 5/8" - send me a PM if so and I'll mail it to you.

Wow....you guys must not deal with non-factory parts much, expecting more from a company on a Universal gauge not specifically designed for your specific make and model....trust me it's better to be too long and cut a few threads off than to be too short.

Actually, that was not the issue at all.

The issue was two of Autometer's own parts (the gauge and mounting cup), not fitting together.

Nothing at all to do with the car itself - the important part here is that Autometer says modifying their gauges to work with their cup, will not void the warranty.

Again yes they make them for their gauges but also give you the extra length studs on the gauge itself due to what ever make and model these go in you may need that longer stud to mount it where you want. Just cut the threads and your good to go. I had some of the mount aluminum screw mounts from auto gauge same company which had a different thread pattern to auto meter both made by the same company.

I've been using auto meter brands for years on different model old and new and have had to modify a few times, even the pillar mount ones for new cars. Modifying is part of the process for universal gauges sometimes. Or it could be just on that gauge, can order a different gauge all together and might fit perfect in the cup, it's just one of those things.

Welcome to the aftermarket............I guess "you missed" the controversy over ARP main studs that interfere with oil pumps. How about Milodon oil pumps that don't fit inside Milodon pans?

I'm 66 and believe me, this has been going on since "I was a kid."
