Awesome Bands that don't get enough credit

How about The Cult? Everyone knows 'Fire Woman' but few know its real name; everyone calls it 'the smokestack lightning song

Love the cult. Saw them in full makeup with psychedelic stage back drop in the mid 80's at the famous 930 club in DC. What a show. Love this song plus its been raining all day. Keep em coming this is awesome.

The Cult was pretty big with at least three songs off that Sonic Temple album in heavy rotation (Fire Woman, Edie, and my favorite, Sun King), plus Love Removal Machine from the previous album and then a resurgence of the earlier work including TV ad soundtracks. They had live radio sessions (a VERY late King Biscuit) and everything.

I think they got their share of respect.

Triumph was huge in the mid to late 80's despite having only about four songs from their entire career getting airplay. Everyone I know who's in their 40's knows them.

Headpins are a good one. I've only met one other person familiar with them.

I'd almost suggest Max Webster/Kim Mitchell, but besides the two most know (Battle scar and Go For A Soda), I just can't seem to get into anything else.

Blackfoot, OTOH, has a LOT more good material than what gets airplay.
Most frequent comment when the Tomcattin' album gets played---"Who IS that?.....no WAY".

My 2 favorite bands of all time. They are both Canadian bands. The last band I was in and formed was called Border Patrol. We covered mostly Canadian rock bands:

Rush, Triumph, April Wine, SAGA, Loverboy, Heart, Honeymoon Suite,The Kings...
I'm not Canadian but I sure love their rock bands!

Love to hear it when Americans appreciate our Canadian music.

How about the Tragically Hip, 54-40, and The Watchmen?

Believe they were ground breaking and have a personal tie to this band as the guitarist is my cousin ( Kristy Wallace aka poison ivy) Love the Cramps.

Really? Your cousin? Too cool! All my punk buddies (ok, me too) had the hots for her!

:)

Eyeball in my martini?

That Cult King Biscuit show had SMOKIN live performances of LRM and one from the later album Earth ****.

I was tapng, but tape ended in the middle of LRM grrrr. Probably should find them on youtube...

Very much so!

They have been an inspiration to me and to my friend's band, Space In Time.

You should check out Witchcraft. ~

It's hopeless. Even if I had the time I couldn't find that great youtube comment explaining, from an insider's knowledge, why some bands got plugged and became top sellers and other ones did not.
But I do know the reason some groups didn't sell well was for reasons like Capricorn Records.
They had The Allman Brothers. And didn't feel the need to market anyone else. (Captain Beyond)

Randy California is dead.
Jay sort of became a one hit wonder on his Thunder Island.
But The Spirit lives on.

somebody at work a few months ago said something about someone 'dead in a ditch somewhere' and another guy and I both said at the same time "with a mind full of chemicals like some cheese eating highschool boy"

It was awesome lol.

been addicted (oddly enough lol) to this one lately and it's another for this list

how is someone with that voice not one of the most famous people on the planet?

The B side of I'm an Adult Now, was pretty good, too- Ten Long Fingers IIRC.

Captain beyond..........look em up.

Yes, Rush never got the " media" credit they deserve but nonetheless, most people I know think their non overplayed media fave songs kick serious ***.

I'm just tired of the " voting public" picking fly by night! and Tom Sawyer as their favorite rush tunes......yes! great songs but overplayed to the point of boredom.
I'd love to hear Lavilla Strangiato, Losing it, or Cygnus played on the radio.

DIO never got the credit he deserved and I barely heard a peep about his passing on the radio yet when Michael Jackson or the dude from beastie Boys passed you would think we lost the saviors of the world.

The Jimmy Herring Band. One of the best bass players you'll ever hear. Neal Fountain, a personal friend of mine.
