axle play... pulled axle and saw this.....

Can the "green" style bearings be ran on the street in a daily driver? YES........ will they last as long as the factory tapered bearings? Who knows, in my experience probally not, But your not going to put 2 to 3 hundred thousand miles on this car anyhow.

Only the first part of this statement is completely true. Go on any early Ford forum and you can find stories about folks having axles walk out of the housings, especially with the early 9" truck housings. Which were later redesigned.

Yes, they have been used extensively. But not without issues. At least, not without ANY issues. I'm sure the instances of failure are still a tiny percentage compared to the total number of rear axles out in the world. But saying there hasn't been any issues is simply false.

Come on man your splitting hairs here! Nothing is a a 100%. Well except birth and death!

Maybe, but if you've ever had or seen an axle walk out of the housing at speed you might have a different opinion on splitting hairs. I've seen it happen with the early 9" Ford housings that had the same type of bearings, it's NOT pretty. Granted, those were on trucks and I'm sure at some point those trucks were probably overloaded and otherwise abused. They were old Ford trucks and were used like it. But, it can and has happened, and has happened enough that anyone that really knows late sixties and early seventies Ford trucks with 9" rears will tell you to pay attention to those bearings if you like your axles in their housings.

Now, that's a problem for the earlier design green bearings, NOT the ones with the snap rings that Dr Diff sells now. If Cass says they're good to go I believe him, because Cass knows his stuff. But I personally still prefer the tapered bearings. They really aren't hard to install or adjust, once you've done it a couple times it takes all of 5 minutes.
