When people say an A body 8 3/4 is 52 5/8 wide flange to flange is that the inside of the flanges or outside?

Typically there are 3 measurements

1. Perch width
2. Housing flange width
3. Axle flange width
4. Drum to drum width

1. Perch: is center to center (you can also measure inside of one to outside of the other to get center to center)
2. Housing flange: is outside of the housing end to outside of the housing end (outside of housing end flange where bearing retainer would touch)
3. Axle flange: is outside axle flange to outside axle flange (the surface where the drums would touch)
4. Drum to drum: Is the outside of the drum to outside of the drum (the surface where the wheels would touch)
