I just installed a sure grip unit in a 489 center section 3:55 chunk. I installed the RP400 green bearings on the axles. I called Dr. Diff about this as I hear you have to remove the thrust block/button. He said knock out the roll pin and the thrust button will come out, which I did. Ive attached a photo of the powerlock unit I got from Dr. Diff. The drivers axle went in no problem at all. The passenger however only goes in as far as the end of the flange studs. I pulled the axle and measured the inner seal to flange and axle flange to spacer on axle to ensure I wasnt hitting the seal. Everything has plenty of space. Im stumped...Any ideas?

Try inward pressure while rotating the axle, there are two sets of splines you need to get into. You're probably into the first set but not the inside set.

And when you removed the thrust buttons you did get both pieces out, correct?

That's a good unit, I have the same one in my diff. It works great.

yeah I got both ends and the roll pin. Ill try inward pressure and see what we got tomorrow. I knew there was something about 2 sets of splines...

Secure the yoke somehow if you don't have the driveshaft in just to keep it from turning.

Got it all seated and in place today. I used a broomstick and measured the depth and there was no blockage the axle just wouldn't slide in. After closer inspection the green bearing retaining flange holes were off by just enough to hold me up. Quick hit with the still and I was in business. Thanks to everyone for all the help!!!
