B- Body Spindles

-
The flopping sides is for the calipers to clear the sway bar on the 72 back A-Bodies when using the BBP set up off cars that are compatible.

Here is a list from another thread. There are B-Bodies on the list so I was wrong. I was thinking about earlier B-Bodies.

Yep, you can use any of the FMJ stuff too, including the spindles. They have slightly different geometry than the '73 up A body spindles, but not enough for most people to even notice. And the change in geometry actually improves the camber gain while cornering, so you can argue they're actually better than a body spindles. This is pretty nice, because a lot of wrecking yards still have FMJ clunkers in their yards, you can pull the spindles and brakes off of some of those models all the way up to '89.

You can also use the larger 11.75" FMJ rotors if you get the caliper brackets to go along with them, they use the same spindles, control arms, and even calipers as the regular '73 up 10.97" rotors do for an A-body. You do need to have 15" rims though, as 14" rims will hit the calipers.

Here's a list of all the Mopars that use the same 10.98" rotor. You can also pull spindles and calipers off of any of these cars. Some will have pin type calipers, but if you grab everything from the spindle out you'll get the right caliper brackets. Some of them also had the 11.75" rotors from '76 to '81.

Thanks so much for the list I saved it lol. That helped alot

Glad to help. Lol, I even got to remember something I had forgot.

Just remember you must use the upper control arms from an 73 up A-Body that has big ball joints. BBJs can be found on disc as well as some drum brake cars. The only other option is to purchase the adapter bushings from Dr. Diff.

I have the a arms already from a 74 duster with disks, what about the lower ball joints with the early a lower controll arm

The A-Body LCA interchanges through 76 if it is a non-sway bar A-Body. I know with the 73-76 A-Body spindles you use the 73-76 A-Body ball joints but using spindles off the others I have no idea.

A Body Disc Brake Swap 101
OK Then....
I am getting started on my Disc Brake Upgrade/Swap on my 1970 Dart GT. Since it seems that nobody has posted a step by step with PICTURES I am now going to do so. This is for 67-72 SBP cars to the 73 - up LBP Brake setup. It may work on older A's but I am only saying what I know it fits.

This is the Old School swap using used parts... NOT a "Kit".
As for other parts and pieces that can be used to do the swap; There are many other threads to help you with this. So if you don't mind, Please don't ask me about all the other interchanges in this thread. Thanks!

Starting out.
You will need to find donor parts from a 1973 - up A body with Disc Brakes to get the parts from.

You will need the following:
Upper Control Arms (Grab the Cam Bolts for "Just in case" too).
Spindles with ALL attached parts (Spindle, Caliper, Caliper Mount, and Rotor/Hub). Don't forget the Lug Nuts as they are bigger than Small Bolt Pattern Lug Nuts. Proportioning/Meter Valve. I am not recomending you get the Brake Soft Lines because I would use new ones. But you may want to get them for reference purposes. You will also need Big Bolt Pattern Rims.

Also, This would be the time to rebuild your Front End too! Hint Hint.

Hose down the Upper Ball Joint Cam Nuts and the Brake Lines connectors with WD-40 or ?? of your choice at least the night before you start this project!

That's it!

Now, just a note on MY cars swap; I only bought new Upper Control Arm Bushings, Upper and Lower Ball Joints since her Front End has less than 10,000 miles on it from the last rebuild.

OK then.... Off to start this! I will post pics later today as we get 'er done.

Thanks for looking!
Bruce B.
