Bald tire cheater slicks?

So I had a flat and put on a spare tire that was new but completely bald from burn outs not to the metal yet. But I noticed the dang tire hooks really good barely a tire chirp at all from a take off. Does this make sense? The tire is a cornell 1000 215 70 14

it makes sense, a bald tire puts a lot more rubber to the surface. not so good when wet
