Hello to all,
Looking at a "66 Barracuda. Fender tag picture attached. My question is about the engine. From my limited knowledge, this tag shows standard 273 2bbl, yet this car has 273 Commando V8. It is badged Formula S on both sides, has Tach and strips and suspension.
Is there a easy explanation for this? This is a four speed manual. Thanks for any help.

If I remember, 31 under ab shows 273 w 2 barrell carb. 3 under c shows 4 speed. should be a f under 7 for a formula s . a 7 under t would show a tack.
I'm sure someone will chime in soon though.

The easy explanation is that somebody made a clone. It's all bolt-on stuff, except the high compression pistons. You might want to run a compression check to see if it's a real Commando or a sheep in wolf's clothing. Does it have the iron dual point distributor? Cloners frequently don't bother with the dizzy -- too much of a PITA. Says a guy who runs one...

That was my first thought.

clone or not, its yours. Commando 273/4 was only a nickle better than the first year 318 LA with a 2bbl, and 'bout 60 ft/lbs shy too. I put a 318 under all my 273/4 stuff and was very happy with the results, everything short of the block, crank and pistons/rods. Used the 4bbl cam too until I went bigger with a Herbert stage 2 solid, woke that thing up big time.
