Other than a bigger rear and an update of the basics, custom headers... how much room is there for a 440?
 
It'll fit. It'll bolt right in but exhaust is a big issue. If I was going to do it, I would put a low deck B motor in it. 400 based engine or 383 based engine.
 
It has been done, but I don't know what's involved. Here are pictures of a couple of Toads with big block motors.

A big block is actually an easier fit into a '63-older than a small block due to the firewall mods needed to clear the small block distributor. Both are a challenge...
 
I met an older gentleman from the east coast not to long ago at a local cruise night who said he'd done several conversions of this type. His opinion was that the Max wedge exhaust manifolds made it quite simple and required only minor dimpling of engine bay sheet metal. I took him at his word since he was driving a '65 valiant set-up this way and it had full fender wells and a flat hood. What a sleeper.
