This topic that is!
But what would be good timing (totall initial)for this set up:
71 340 9:52 compression
MP M1 single plain intake
1972 Thermoquad 6128s
MP purple 280 dration/474 lift cam
headers
MP electronic iginition distributor
combution chamber volume 65cc
737 torqueflight
Oh yeah 3:91's

I'm worried this cam is too big to get proper vacuum etc.

The MP books (Engines) have a good set up. It should work just fine.

disconnect vacuum advance hose and plug and with warmed up engine, inital 5*'s + or - 28's, hold at 2600 rpm, set timing to 32*'s, BTDC, (Adjustable vacuum advance canister) vaccum hose connected, max advance is 52*'s.

Bases on what I have how many turns do I set the idle mixture screw to? or do I use the 3/4 inch measurement from thermoquads.com suggestion?

Its probably going to like around 12-16 degrees of initial timing.

i usually run between 15-17* initial and 35* total. you'll have to mess around and see what the motor likes.

This is a tuning question that'll take a long time to write out. I'm not doing it, sorry, but it's just to long. You need a book and read up on this. Look at edelbrock.com and search for the instructions on carb tuning.
