Either my beard is getting coarser or the razor I use is sh*t. What name brand do you use, that you like?

Gillette Custom Plus Pivot. (blue double blade with pivoting head and lube strip)

I buy 50 packs at Sam's Club around $25

After using the disposable, I "chase" it with a Gillette Fusion 5 blade razor "against the grain". I can get a year out of the Razor 5 blade refills (that are much more expensive) before having to change them.

The regular disposal, I change about 4 weeks.

I can go almost 5 days before it gets itchy again. If I shave every day, my skin gets irritated and a rash. When I work, I shave every day to keep the cleaner look.

Gillette Fusion, same as KrazyKuda. Shave every other day because I get wooley fast.

Gillette custom plus 3.
It does a good job of shaving my legs every other day. lol

I can grow a full beard in two weeks. My skin is real sensitive since I am a redhead and fair skinned. The absolute BEST thing to shave with is a straight razor, however, I would end up cutting my head off. I use an antique safety razor I found on Ebay several years ago. It does damn NEAR the same job a straight razor does without the risk of accidental suicide. I use whichever four edge razor blades are on sale. I got an old NOS one because the new ones ........like most everything else ain't worth spit. I can shave my whole beard off as close as I ever shave going over it just twice. A straight razor could do it once time over, but I am sure I would hit the jugular.

Oh and currently I am clean shaven except for a goatee. My razor blades last about 2 solid months. Lets see a disposable do that.

Has anyone ever tried that gizmo that they advertised that could resharpen the razor blades? I never believed in it enough to try it? Does it work? Is it any good?

Do you leave a stripe on your bush also???

Or as a coworker I used to know would say, "Back in my day the girls had big huge hairy bushes. Now they get those "mohawks" going on down there...." LOL! :angel5:

I prefer hardwood so I dont have to shave after. :blob:

Screw disposables, get yourself an old school safety razor.
I use a 1957 Gillette super speed and love it, easy to clean, blades are cheap and cuts nice and close.

I can't tell you the name of my razor! Its an old school unit, has the screw handle, and uses Wilkinson (I think) double edged blades. A pack of 5 blades lasts me a bout 6 months.....

Close shave, yep, shave burns, nope, I shave every other shower....Only hair on my face is a goatee......SOMETIMES in the "dry" season, I'll have just handlebars.....

Good idea for a thread. Im gonna stop buying the Fusion, they are ridiculously expensive. Must be made by Flaming River. I forgot about Dad's super speed from the 60's as a kid. Thanks for the blast from the past.

All posts, true here... Geez, the older you get,the harder & crustier the stubble gets. I use the dollar store stuff. I found the better consistent shave, comes with the 2 & 3 blade basic cheapies. I have a traditional Norelco ,doesn't even come close in daily use .With that ,2 times a day, minimum.

Gillette has a new fusion with a ball joint if you want the latest/greatest/most-up-to-datest:

The problem is that it still uses the $3.50+/ea cartridges

Gillette sells the Guard in India (blades for that cost about 9 cents there, but you can't find them over here for less than 50 cents). I actually find that those last a long time, and are durn near idiot proof (when I shave before my morning cup of joe):

Otherwise, I use a safety razor (usually either an Edwin Jagger DE89 or a Merkur 41C "1940" open comb).

The next issue is finding which blades you like. Try a sampler pack like this one and figure out what works best for you:

Here are some good on-line suppliers with sample packs:

I've found most of the Gillette blades are pretty good. Also like the Astras, Sharks and the Lords. The Feathers are the sharpest, but I tend to cut the heck out of myself with them.

get yourselves an electric shaver and use it every day, no hassle.
I used a razor every day for 6 years when I was in the corps, even before I had any wiskers, they ruined my baby face. lol

I have a NICE Norelco. My sister gave it to me for Christmas one year. It was real expensive. My skin is so sensitive that that damn thing skins the hell out of it. The safety razor I am using now is the best thing I have ever used.

I'll say this too......if yall ain't tried the Gillette Fusion shavin gel, you need to. It's the most coolin shavin gel I have ever used. The Fusion after shave lotion is the same.

When the hell did you start shavin' you hillbilly sob!?!?!?

I've been on Schick tripples.

They are $2.88 for a five pack, but are frequently in "bonus" 8 packs for the same price.

I swear by Edge gel for sensitive skin (purple).

The razors have been lasting about a month to two months.

If you can remember to dry them, they can last a lot longer.

Think about a bare metal surface and water evaporating and oxidation.
