The engine and trans are out and we are taking the Scamp several blocks down the street to the paint shop to do the engine bay.

What is the best place to attach the tow rope to?

Any do's or don'ts?

Thanks

dont's: strut rods, bumper brackets, bumper
the only place to attach would be around the actual K frame. make sure the strap is low enough not to interfere with any other parts of the car when towing.

Thanks, will definitely use the k frame then. We pulled my last car before but I don't even remember where we attached it. Was almost going to use the bumper area on this.

I wouldn't use a tow rope at all....just a disaster waiting to happen. Rent a tow dolly, trailer, or have it towed by a professional. I was behind a vehicle being towed with a rope one time when someone didn't realize it was being towed and changed lanes right between the tow vehicle and the towed vehicle. All three of them were totalled when they got tangled and went off the road. Nobody was seriously hurt but two went to the hospital to be checked out and stitched up.

That's almost funny. Only around here would some jack-a$$ try to squeeze between 2 cars that were that close together, and not notice that there was a rope or chain.

But I do agree with the trailer. Borrow or rent one. It would probably only cost about $50 or less to rent a car dolly from U-Haul, a little more for a full trailer.

Well we towed it with the rope this afternoon. Went pretty smooth other than the tow rope breaking when going up a driveway. It was pretty old, but we had a new one also so we used that after.

Yeah I definitely wouldn't use a tow rope if it was far. This was only down a couple streets several blocks. It was in the back of a business park, so not many cars were around. Just gotta synchronize your breaking good.

Oh that is funny. I'm thinking the rope might have been extra long, this way they thought it be safer and less likely to bump in to each other. So some hotshot comes along and, LOL

Sometimes folks, you can be too safe and cause problems, ha ha

Yeah, they had a long tow rope for added braking time for the driver in the towed vehicle. The towed vehicle didn't have a sign saying "vehicle in tow" on the rear either so there were many screw-ups on this mishap. At least this happened on the way TO the body shop and not coming back! It wasn't some rice rocket hot shot weaving in and out of traffic, it actuall was an old geezer who thought he was about to miss his turn. I could see it coming but couldn't do much about it except watch them all go over the edge into the ditch. They all hit the curb and guard rail pretty hard. The tow vehicle ended up on it's right side. The towed vehicle rolled twice, and the meat in the sandwich was hit all the way around from the other two vehicles and it also hit a lamp post on it's right side.

That would have gone viral if it was videod.. lol

Remember towing my brother's little 95 Civic with the family Fairmont wagon. Went around a turn too fast, and next thing he is beside us! All I could do was tromp that crappy six and get him back where he belonged :) Dad loves this story.

Towing by rope is illegal in many places, so I could see not having a sign on the car---you be surprise all what some cops don't notice.

It works, even on the freeway, in fact that is the best place for it, lol The wind slows you down pretty good at 70 mph...thing is somebody else might cause big problems.

What was it that the towing guy, with the Hemi something or other called people towing with a rope.........oh yeah.....a dope on a rope....
