Big Block 400 Cylinder Length

-
Because of the way the block is cast and machined, it probably varies somewhat, so you would need to give specific measuring points and locations. Even then, I bet there would be variances. Simply because it does not matter where the bottom of the cylinders end as long as there's no interference with the crankshaft and there's ample room for piston stroke. In other words, You will not find a "one answer fits all" here. Still, I'm sure someone here has a block or two they'll measure for you.

RustyRatRod I am interested in the side of the cylinder nearest the intake manifold and the side nearest the exhaust manifold. Just a tape measure measurement is accurate enough.

Thanks guys.
6.250 is both sides, thrust and non thrust.

I'm guessing you wanna know how big a stroke you can get in one?
There's bunches of 512s out there with 4.25 stroke. Get a 4.375 in one? I don't know. (sure can in a 440 block, I've got one)
You could call the tech line of 440 source. I'd bet they know.

I just answered the question a post in front of u

I realize that. Cross purposes. I was talking about stroke length, which is dependant on how long a cylinder is.
I'm guessing that what he really wants to know is how big a stroke fits. 440 source would know that, I could be wrong.
Yeah he might but he just wanted measurements

Agree. My question is why? Sleeve?
That's what I would guess myself.
I've been known to be in a sleeve book a time or two looking.
If that's what he's looking for, I'd go with a 460 Ford sleeve
