Hello everyone it's been a while since I have been on here.I have been rebuilding my 73 duster that I crashed almost 2 years ago.I have the new inner fender well and radiator core support all welded in and putting it back together.
My question is, I had a 1968 C-Body 26" radiator in it after modifications to the core support. Now i am needed to buy a radiator for it.It has a 500 hp 383 in it and was wondering if anyone with a big block duster is running the 22" radiator and how well is it cooling??. My old 26" brass radiator worked great.I have found a slightly used 22" 4 core Griffin rad for it for 75.00 and it's in great shape and clean.I have been searching the web for a while trying to figure out what after market 26" rads are good that I can afford right now.It has been a pain looking for a decent one but seems like the all have some sort of issues with leaking, coming apart, etc.I am running a mopar mechanical fan with a back up electric fan.Do y'all think the Griffin 22" 4 core will work??. I know I can't spend upwards of 300.00 on a radiator. What do y'all think?. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.Hope you all have a blessed day and Thank you..

300$ for a radiator. Lol. My answer may shock you, but a 22” copper and brass recored 4row high efficiency is gonna run you like 700$. I wouldn’t run a generic aluminum in my 440 cuda. Just sayin

How do you know the griffin rad is any good? Where are you buying it from? Just cause they say it don’t leak, doesn’t mean ****. Until it’s tested with 15lbs of air under water you won’t know either

I was talking about an aluminum replacement and I know the price for a brass radiator.Yes they are expensive.

And scrap your electric fan. Or your mechanical fan. Pick one. Do you have a shroud?
I'm sorry but that ain't gonna happen.I sometimes have to use the electric fan when I am at the track and running brackets or back to back dial in times..I can have as many as I need, and yes I have a shroud.

It's from a good friend with this extra rad.I know it's good and no leaks because I put my inlet & outlet caps on it filled it with distilled water and pumped up the pressure on my radiator pressure I'm not a dumb *** rookie, I have built several race cars and many engines for customers for approximately 30 yrs.now.I am just asking a simple question to see if anyone has/ is running a 22" radiator with a big block. You don't have to be a smart *** dude..You know what,I am just gonna dump this abodiesonly site and use my own knowledge .It probably better than what y'all know anyhow.. Good buy..

Easy does it. He was giving you HIS opinion, which is exactly what you asked for.

No need to be a douche bag about it.

Now for my two cents, and you probably won’t like it either.

I never use more than two cores. I see zero need for more rows. Two big cores will out flow and out cool four cores.

Brass is heavy. Aluminum is light. That should be a no brainer. And yes, aluminum will cool as good or better than brass.

I wouldn’t use a 22 inch radiator for anything that isn’t stock. It makes no sense.

Build your cooling system correctly and you can ditch that electric fan.

If your cooling system can’t keep up between rounds you need a better cooling system.

Bye

A little heavy there. Nobody called you a rookie. Here's the thing. A LOT has changed in 30 years. With all of the fantastic high efficiency cores available today, my question about cutting the core support for a 26" radiator would be "WHY"? It's simply not needed.

Screw you dude

Here is a well known fact. 22" 3-core 1/2" tube brass radiators cooled all factory big block and Hemi Darts back in the day with no overheating problems. A 26" radiator won't cool any better as the opening in almost every A-Body is made for a 22" core, unless it is a 75-76 A-Body, but since you didn't tell us what you have we only can ASSume wht you have. Buy the Griffen and have it tested, you already answered your own question...

Nothing like an electric fan when drag racing. Cool the car with he engine off. A must if you want to be successful racing on a hot day

Cool man have fun with two fans fighting each other. Hope your 75$ griffin gets you what you are after. I only worked at a radiator shop and you have already made up your mind

 lol
A 22' aluminum with two 1 1/4 " tubes is what I'm using to cool a 451, never gets above 200 on a 90 degree day.
not to hi jack/// brand /model of the one your using please// tried to pm you...
