Big power Poly engine in Hot Rod Engine Masters Challenge

-
that's pretty cool......id hate to see the cost on all those parts though......

very interesting.

makes me wonder IF the 426 hemi had not come along, what could have been accomplished by ma mopar with the poly 318.... thin wall casting technique, decent intake, bringing the C I up some??? etc

Considering the parts they used, I agree! Yikes!

Hillborn injection??? Who would of thunk that one?
Custom billet ground Comp Cam! Yikes!
Holley EFI & ignition!

Lots of money there. Power was respectable even though the cam was small for the cubes. A little more cam probably would have won them the trophy.

566 ft/lbs at 3800 that is a serious stump puller.
Love to have that for a truck engine.

Those Polys are pretty with the new Polysuperpac intakes and valve covers. The last photo is the dyno engine.

guys into early b bodies are the ones that tend to like the poly, those that like to be different, and those that have the $$$ and w ant the challenge of getting hp from it are the players. I have had several stock ones, good durable engines. I would love to have one built to really run!

I kinda thought the only thing cool about the poly engine was that it was a mostly overlooked
relic from the mid sixty's. The only available parts were from the sixty's. This added to its charm.
All modernized it no longer has its visual nostalgic appeal.
Throwing excessive amounts of money at one to modernize it. Just can't get into it.
Same effect as computer controlled port injected flathead.
What for?
Let a dog be a dog.
