Bought a black ball for a Hurst shifter, the shifter is supposedly out of a 66 Barracuda. On the shifter the threads are finer and it is a larger diameter.
1) Anyone know what this ball is from?
2) What is the best way to make it fit and look correct?

Thanks.

I think I would drill and tap the ball rather than alter the shifter stem.
That ball may have a reducer in it already. Can't really tell by the pics.

You might be able to drill it and tap it to the diameter of the shifter.
As far as what it's from your guess is as good as mine.
My brother did have one on his 71 Duster.

I don't see a reducer, the existing threads are the black plastic.
I can't recall, but I thought all plastic shifter balls had metal inserts for the threads, this one doesn't- stupid ball.
I guess I can drill and tap plastic just the same.
The guy I got it from thought it might be from a Catalina.

I've had that exact problem before. It looks like the reducer is already out of that ball. I re-threaded my ball when I had that issue. I'll tell you what, I'll bet I have a reducer that will fit that ball. And if not, I'm sure you can find one easy enough. I'll check all my shifter ball's.

I just found 2 ball's in my garage. The two that I have like that one both are without a reducer. I would just go ahead and re-thread that one. It's easy enough.
