What colors would you choose for paint and interior if you had a car with a blank palette? I found a 69 Barracuda that`s black with a red stripe and red interior. I think the car would be beautiful just put back to it`s factory colors.

Depends on the car, year and model. Don't cross breed, like put a color on a car that wasn't available for the year or use "Viper" this or that.

I may be the only one, but I like Sherwood Green with a black interior on late '60s-early '70s A-bodies.

B5 blue is also nice, black interior again.

A black car with red interior is sinister.

Hope that helps.

Id go dark blue and charcoal. Body- dark blue with charcoal accents. Interior- charcoal with dark blue accents. But thats just my taste. Maybe its from being married and divorced 2 times that Im just used to being beaten black and blue!

That black/red/red sounds like a winning combination on that car. I'd keep it that way. Gets the big  from me.

Just throwing this out there........

I seen a 68 Coronet one time that was black with a saddle tan interior and a gold butt stripe that looked pretty damned tough!!!! I don't know how that color combo would work on a 69 Cuda fastback(might have to lose the butt stripe), but it would be unique!!!

Come one msarni1 dont beat around the bush, tell us how you really feel?:-D

Your not alone. My car is getting painted F4 green. It left the factory Rallye red. I dont mind red, Im just tired of it. My last 2 trucks were red, My barracuda was red. gets old.

Cool... it's good to buck the 'belly button' color choices, they do get old.

Black and red always looks good. So does silver with red interior. I looked at a 383 fastback that was silver with red and a red stripe. Lovely car, just more than I could spend at the time

Keep the black and red with a 2008 twist. Use the black crystal pearl from the 300/charger and inferno red pearl for the stripes!!!!!!!!!!!
my 2cts

I like the idea of black and red but for a 60s car I think white with red interior and a red stripe really states the era.

I hate red interior

me too,had a crash dream and the blood matched the interior. first thing i did with the 69 barracuda was rip the red interior out. going with white in a white car. keeping cool here in tx.

...or use "Viper" this or that.

I resemble that remark. What's wrong with "Viper Race Yellow" and black?

If you drive north up I-35 from Austin about an hour, Troy is just north of Temple about eight miles. The interstate splits our little town right up the middle.

Where are you?

Jerry

A bit farther north on 35. The bustling megapolis of Alvarado....between Hillsboro and Ft.Worth

Know exactly where it is. My older son up in Dallas was driving a frac truck for Halliburton out of Alvarado until just a couple of months ago. Do you know about the Cowtown Mopar Club in Ft. Worth? They're a great group of guys, and they love to race.

I agree with rmchrgr that it depends on the car and year. Some colors just seem to suit certain body styles. It's hard to beat black on a 69 barracuda though.

On the subject of green. There is the old addage that "only the green survive". I usually don't seem to be drawn the greens too much ... until I see one in person. It's funny how they ususally look kinda blah in photos but sorta suck you in when you actually walk up to one. F6 green especially has a certain wow factor when in the sun. Somewhere I've seen breakdowns on colors for US autos and green is always near the top in sales.

To me, the colors just look too modern on older sheet metal and were never available until the Viper came. I know they're part of the Chrysler performance heritage, but it never looks right to me which is totally subjective. I'm someone who likes factory colors that were available for certain models of certain years. I probably wouldn't paint my Valiant anything beyond what was available on the '65 paint sheet.

Lots of guys do it though, so there's nothing 'wrong' with it, just my personal taste.

You are absolutely correct, it is a subjective matter of personal taste. And I appreciate what you are saying. From my son's perspective (15 years old at the time he chose the color) he was looking to have something completely different than all the other kids with Celicas, Mustangs, and Eclipses.

This Dart Sport was our first foray into the world of vintage cars, much less MOPAR, and neither of us were sworn to a purist's belief in retaining everything in period-specific detail. Our goal was to keep the nostalgic theme, but revamp the car with a few modern details to add a little personal touch.

That's why the dull "Blaze Yellow" was replaced with a brighter color, the argent silver grill was blacked out, the woodgrain dash components were replaced with carbon fiber inserts I handcrafted, and the upholstery was custom made with cooler-than-vinyl cloth inserts, contrasting yellow piping to bring a little color into the black cavern, and custom-stitched "DART SPORT" emblems were placed on the headrests.

You are correct in your assessment that what works for some might not be right for others. What a dull place this would be if it were anything different. I can't wait to cut loose on my '48 Ford F1 rat rod pickup that's waiting in the wings for me. I've been wanting to paint something in "PANTHER PINK".

I too will eventually resemble that. I hear you on the period correct colors but some of the new stuff is just plain HOT! I'm going with GTS Blue with Viper Silver stripe and interior. Can't wait.
