Body seam

Is this surface rust in this body seam normal? Car sat for 10 years in az. Theres still some areas i need to look over. Just checking to see if you guys cut this kind of stuff out or just clean it up and weld the seam. In the door jams. 74 dart

Car is solid other then these areas, Some weird seam separation spots.

Clean it up and paint it. Final fit was never stellar from day one.

IMHO

Seam rust is an indicator of future rust through.

That doesn't mean it can't be stopped.

I have the same issue on some parts of a 67 dart convert in places.

90% is around the top opening. Except for the floors (sat in a field since 1976) it's really rust free.

I would treat that, prime it and paint it. I use a rust converter that neutralizes rust and turns it black. Then it can be primed and painted over. I have done it many times, and the paint never failed, and the rust never came back.

If I could have afforded it, I would have had mine dipped. I have watched a lot of YouTube videos on cars being dipped. It looks like a very viable option to me.

It's not that expensive on the grand scheme of things. For me it will cost about the same to have it shipped both ways as it cost to dip. There is a company in Europe that dips washes, then e coats the entire car, then bakes it in an oven
